Overview

Drumainn is ideally placed for discovering both the delights of the city and some of the must-see attractions that are in easy reach nearby. The entrance is on the first floor up a set of stone steps from the parking area. Once inside, a gas flame-effect fire creates a warm and welcoming ambience in the sitting/dining room where some attractive original features have been retained such as the traditional sash windows framing views of the grounds and surrounding trees.

A handy breakfast bar in the colourful kitchen makes a great place to enjoy an evening drink and also on this level is a double bedroom with lots of storage and a little window seat, as well as a smart family bathroom with a bath and shower over.

The other two bedrooms are laid out on the second floor with a neat twin room and an appealing double bedroom with a charming, king-size sleigh bed and en suite shower room.

Guests have access to a dedicated garden area to sit out in and there is parking just alongside. It is a lovely, peaceful spot with birds chirping away in the trees, something that may not be expected from such a central location.

Map & Local

There is a grocery shop a short walk away along the road and a supermarket only 5 minutes’ drive away. Lovely walks can be enjoyed around the nearby Ness islands that sit out in the River Ness and are connected via footbridges, so it is possible to start on one side of the river and wander all the way across to the other.

Inverness Harbour (2.5 miles) is the jumping off point for boat trips out on the Moray Firth to see the fantastic pods of dolphins that frequent the waters. Golfers will find plenty to interest them as there are a few courses to choose from within the city, the nearest being the 18 hole Fairways Golf Course. There are also several other good courses in easy driving distance including the Castle Stuart Golf Links championship course that has a very picturesque outlook over the Moray Firth.

History enthusiasts can tread in the footsteps of those in combat with a walk around the Culloden battlefield (7 miles) where the 1746 conflict took place and, amazingly, lasted for less than an hour. Guided tour are available and the visitor centre has an immersive 360 degree film that gives an insight into the realities of the battle.

It is just 15 minutes’ drive to the excellent Dores Inn right on the shore of wonderful Loch Ness with a superb pebbly beach alongside, making it a convenient pit stop for a meal or drink whilst out and about.

On the north western shore of Loch Ness near Drumnadrochit stand the ruins of the iconic, 13th century Urquhart Castle (18.5 miles) that are fascinating to wander around whilst imagining how it would have looked in its former glory. Drumnadrochit itself is a hub for ‘nessie’ spotters with two interesting museums that are dedicated to the elusive creature.

Drumainn is less than half an hour’s drive from the Cairngorms National Park where the Cairngorms Mountain Resort has snowsports on offer in season, as well as walking and tubing in the summer months.
