Raven’s Cottage is a charming detached cottage set in beautiful gardens in a handy central location in Strathpeffer in Ross-shire, from which there is great touring in all directions.

This characterful cottage is actually one of the oldest buildings in the village that has been carefully brought up-to-date without losing any of its traditional appeal. There is plenty of space to spread out into with an L-shaped sitting/dining room with an electric stove and a separate cosy snug with a wood-burning stove to curl up in front of.
Steps lead up to the neat and well-equipped kitchen that is partly open to the dining area so the nominated cook doesn’t have to miss out on all the fun! At the end of the kitchen is a little utility room that houses the washing machine and has a useful WC just off it.
Upstairs are two bedrooms, a double bedroom with decorative fireplace and a twin room, as well as a modern bathroom with bath and shower over and a useful storage area with a window seat looking out over the garden.
The large garden is well landscaped and surrounded by a high hedge that provides plenty of privacy. The raised patio seating area is the ideal place for alfresco dining or admiring the plants and shrubs from and there is offroad parking just beside the garden with a pretty archway leading through to the house.
Strathpeffer is lovely to wander around with an ice cream parlour and coffee shop just a stone’s throw away, interesting shops to explore and a choice of eateries.
The village has a fascinating history as a 19th century health resort where people would come to experience the benefits of the healing waters from the mineral springs.
The original spa pavilion has been refurbished and turned into a venue for various concerts and events throughout the year and the little pump room houses an exhibition on Strathpeffer’s history and spa treatments.
Part of the old train station now houses the Highland Museum of Childhood which has an impressive collection of toys and dolls and offers an insight into the lives of Highland children in times gone by. On Saturday evenings in the summer months it is delightful to gather in the town square to hear the local pipe band play and see some traditional Highland dancing.
Golfers will enjoy a round at the Strathpeffer Spa Golf Course that offers reasonable green fees for visitors and beautiful views of the Cromarty Firth and whisky enthusiasts will want to head to the Glen Ord Distillery (7.5 miles) for a tour or tasting session.
A circular walking route leads from the Black Muir Wood carpark on the edge of Strathpeffer up to the Touchstone Maze that is made up of 81 different stones brought in from all across Scotland. Dingwall (5 miles) is the place for supermarket shopping or a dip in the swimming pool at the leisure centre and a half hour train ride takes you right into ‘the capital of the Highlands’ - Inverness.
