Overview

The lodge has been fully refurbished throughout and has been set up perfectly just for two, making it the ideal place for a relaxing romantic break. At the heart of the lodge is the comfy sitting room that has an open fire to curl up in front of in the evenings. The smart kitchen is well-equipped with a neat little dining area alongside and a door that leads out to the garden, so you can ‘bring the outdoors in’.

The double bedroom is spacious and light and there is a modern bathroom with bath and shower over that completes the indoor accommodation.

Outside there is parking to the side of the lodge, as well as a small garden area (furniture) that overlooks the expanse of fields to the rear.

Map & Local

Paxton House is just a couple of minutes’ walk away with experienced guides that can lead you on a tour of its many delights.

This fine Palladian stately home is known for its fine art and Chippendale furniture, as well as its extensive costume collection. There is also a tearoom and 80 acres of woodland grounds and a particularly pretty walk that leads along the banks of the beautiful River Tweed.

A bus route runs right past the cottage and there is a pub just 10 minutes’ walk away in Paxton. The border is less than a mile away so you are well placed for sightseeing in both the Scottish Borders and north Northumberland.

The Chain Bridge Honey Farm (3 miles) is a nice spot to stop off at while you are exploring the area. It has a visitor centre explaining all about the honey-making process and you can even see right into an active hive (fortunately through glass). There are lots of natural honey-based products on sale, as well as the delicious honey itself and in the summer a quaint little café opens up outside in a specially adapted double decker bus!

Berwick-upon-Tweed (5 miles) is a bustling town with plenty of shops, supermarkets, pubs and eateries, as well as a well-connected railway station that links up to the whole of the east coast. Berwick has an interesting past and has belonged to both Scotland and England over the years due to its proximity to the border. The walk that runs around the Elizabethan ramparts offers some excellent views out over the town to the River Tweed below.

This part of the east coast has lots of beautiful sandy beaches and coastal villages to discover, with some excellent fish and chip shops to stop off at along the way. Boat trips run out from the harbour in Eyemouth (11 miles) so you can see up close the cliffs and coves of the Eyemouth and St Abbs coastline that is home to many seabirds and even seals. There is a ‘Fast Blast’ trip that is great for adrenalin hunters or a more leisurely sea safari that allows you to fully take in the scenery. There is also a very picturesque 18-hole golf course at Eyemouth that welcomes visitors and is set right on the coast so you can enjoy a round whilst taking in some breathtaking sea views.
