Mary Bank Cottage is a traditional, detached cottage in Peebles in the Scottish Borders, set in a pretty spot down a quiet side road and yet with easy access to the town and all of its amenities.

The cottage is very centrally located so it makes an excellent base for exploring the local area and is well served by public transport. The cosy sitting room has plenty of comfy seating to cuddle up on and leads through to the sunny conservatory where further seating looks out over the charming garden with views of the Cross Kirk ruin peeping through the trees.
The kitchen is neat and well-equipped and there is a spacious separate dining room in which to gather together and enjoy evening meals whilst planning the next day’s activities.
The modern bathroom is also on this level and upstairs are the double and twin bedrooms, both of which have coombed ceilings and dormer windows that keep them light and bright.
Parking is on the street right outside and to the rear of the cottage are extensive gardens that are mainly laid to grass with a paved seating area (with furniture) and shed that provides secure storage for bikes, etc.
There is a supermarket just a couple of minutes’ walk away from the cottage or you can reach the High Street in under 10 minutes’ walk where there are lots of little shops, cafés, pubs, etc.
Peebles has several excellent restaurants if you fancy a night off from cooking followed by an easy stroll home afterwards.
The town sits right on the River Tweed and there are picturesque walks to be had along the banks of the river where you may even catch a glimpse of Neidpath Castle tucked away amongst the trees. The river is renowned for its fishing and day permits for trout and grayling fishing are available from several places in Peebles and can also be bought online.
The area around Peebles is well-known with mountain bikers as it is home to not one, but two 7stanes mountain biking centres at Glentress Forest (4 miles) and Innerleithen (7 miles). If that isn’t enough adrenalin for you, you can take to the trees and tackle the Go Ape aerial adventure course that can also be found in Glentress Forest.
Kailzie Gardens, just 3 miles out of Peebles, is a lovely place to spend an afternoon with 15 acres of beautiful gardens to explore and a wonderful range of flowers, shrubs and trees to admire. There is plenty of wildlife with red squirrels, roe deer and a range of bird life to look out for including herons, kingfishers and lots of friendly ducks. In the Nature Centre there are live video feeds that allow you to look right into the ospreys nests that are perched high up in the trees of the Tweed Valley Forest Park.
The impressive Traquair House (7 miles) dates right back to 1107 and is said to be the oldest continually habited house in Scotland. It is now open to the public for house tours or perhaps just to wander in its extensive informal gardens. There is even a huge, hedged maze that both adults and children are sure to love, as well as a mini adventure playground area. The house brews its own ‘real ale’ and you can tour the brewery and try some for yourself, or stock up and take some home with you.
The hustle and bustle of the capital Edinburgh is just over half an hour’s drive away and there are ‘park and ride’ services available if you don’t want to drive right into the city centre. If you fancy a trip to the seaside there are several sandy beaches to choose from along the east coast at Portobello, Aberlady, North Berwick and Dunbar that are all reachable in around an hour’s drive.
