Originally a traditional shepherd’s cottage, Cademuir has been set up with the comfort and enjoyment of guests in mind at all times. With so much to do nearby days will surely be spent out and about with the multi-fuel stove in the sitting room creating a warm and inviting atmosphere to return to. French doors flood the room with light and open up out onto the lovely mature garden.
The all-white kitchen is functional and bright and also downstairs are a shower room with a walk-in shower and a snug/single bedroom that has a charming day bed. The other bedrooms, a double and a neat single room are both upstairs, as well as a handy WC.
A beautiful garden surrounds the house with lush plants and trees, pretty lawned areas and seating to admire it from, parking right at the front door and secure storage for bikes, etc. The garden is open to a small burn at the bottom so care should be taken (particularly with children).
Beyond the garden there are lovely views out over the surrounding rolling hills that just beg to be explored with walking straight out from the door.
Peebles (4.5 miles) has plenty of shops to wander round as well as a range of cafés, pubs and restaurants to eat out at. At Cocoa Black the café has amazing cakes, chocolates and patisserie to try out or take home as a treat and the Tweeddale Museum and Gallery on the High Street gives a good insight into local history.
The quiet roads surrounding the cottage are ideal for cyclists who will want to try out sections of the Tweed Cycleway that runs nearby. For mountain bikers, there are two excellent 7stanes mountain biking centres to choose from at Glentress (6.5 miles) and Innerleithen (11.5 miles).
Within the grounds of the Barony Castle Hotel (9.5 miles) is the fascinating Great Polish Map of Scotland, a huge, 3 dimensional sculpture of Scotland that is best viewed from the raised viewing platform. The restaurant in the hotel is a good stop off for bar food or an a la carte meal and there are spa days and beauty treatments on offer if some pampering is on the agenda.
There are an array of gorgeous plants and trees to marvel at amongst the 65 acres of pretty woodland in the Dawyck Botanic Garden (9 miles) with beautiful snowdrops and rhododendrons in season as well as unusual plants such as delightful Himalayan Blue poppies.
If a trip to Edinburgh is calling then it is about a 45 minute drive up to the Park and Ride at Straiton where buses run regularly right into the city centre. Discover the sights to be found at every turn including the wonderful Edinburgh Castle itself, shop in some of the delightful boutiques or take in some culture at one of the galleries and museums.
