This characterful cottage has been thoughtfully kitted out with everything needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The sitting room with its wooden beamed ceiling and wood-burning stove is sure to be the main place that everyone gathers together and doors lead from there through to the large, sunny conservatory/dining room from which the garden can be admired. A second wood-burning stove in the kitchen keeps it nice and cosy and it is well-equipped for creating some tasty meals.
The entrance porch provides a warm welcome and has room for storing boots and a spacious double bedroom is laid out on this level, alongside a family bathroom and utility room that complete the downstairs accommodation.
Steep stairs lead upstairs to a second attractive double bedroom, a shower room and a single room that has a full-size single bed but, due to limited head height, may be more suitable for a child or young adult.
Parking for up to two cars is up the drive right by the door and from there a gate leads through to the delightful patio which has plenty of seating and a picnic table. In the enclosed garden the mature plants and trees create a nice sheltered feeling and steps that lead up to the rest of the terraced lawn areas.
Midlem is a little village clustered around a village green that is in easy reach of the towns of Selkirk and Melrose and is the starting point for lovely walks straight off out into the surrounding countryside.
Selkirk (5 miles) is the place to head for shopping and it also has a golf course and swimming pool. Bisley at Braidwood, just down the road from the house, offers clay pigeon shooting and has a virtual reality shooting simulator to perfect your aim on or, if you prefer, try out an old-fashioned wild west shoot out!
There are lots of interesting little independent shops in Melrose (7 miles), as well as a deli, butcher, greengrocer and a range of pubs and eateries. The town is well known for the Melrose Sevens rugby tournament that is held annually and draws in teams and spectators from all around the world.
Melrose is home to Melrose Abbey, one of four famous 12th century ruined Abbeys in the region, with the others sited at Dryburgh, Kelso and Jedburgh. There are both walking and cycling routes that take in all four and offer the chance to explore these pretty towns at the same time.
A host of attractions are in easy reach nearby with everything from riding, walking, mountain biking and fishing to visiting some of the local historic castles and stately homes.
It is just over an hour's drive to Edinburgh, or 50 minutes by train from Galashiels (8 miles), if you fancy a trip to the bustling capital with its array of shops, museums, theatres and galleries. History enthusiasts will want to make sure they don’t miss seeing commanding Edinburgh Castle and the Queen's official Scottish residence at Holyrood Palace.
