Pretty Abercorn Cottage can be found in a little row of houses in the quiet village of Leitholm near Coldstream (6 miles) in the Scottish Borders countryside just half an hour’s drive from the beaches of the Berwickshire coast.

This quaint cottage dates back to the early 1900s and has been lovingly brought up-to-date to create a holiday home that is both modern and comfortable but still full of character throughout. The inviting sitting room is particularly cosy with an electric stove and a lovely home from home feeling to it.
A central hallway leads through to the back of the house where the well-equipped kitchen has a handy door that leads out to the garden for al fresco dining. There is also a breakfasting area in the kitchen as well as a bright and airy separate dining room to gather together and enjoy meals in.
The bathroom has the option of the bath or shower over and the two attractive double bedrooms are set out upstairs with a king-size bed, plenty of storage and a dressing area in the master bedroom.
Parking for up to two cars is right by the front door and, to the rear, is a charming garden with lots of mature plants and trees and a delightful sunken decked seating area. A shed provides secure storage for bikes and there is a summerhouse at the end of the garden with further seating to admire the garden from.
It is just a short stroll along the road for a drink or some hearty pub grub at the Plough Inn that is dog friendly and offers takeaway fish and chips a couple of nights a week.
Coldstream (6 miles) is the closest place for shopping with a small supermarket and a good selection of other interesting shops to explore. There is also the chance to fish for salmon on the famous River Tweed and on the outskirts of Coldstream delightful woodland walks lead around The Hirsel Estate that is particularly beautiful in mid-May when the colourful rhododendrons burst into life.
Foodies will find a range of eateries to try out in some of the surrounding villages - Cornhill-on-Tweed (7.5 miles) has an excellent restaurant and a well-stocked village shop and there are restaurants in Swinton (3.5 miles), Birgham (5 miles) and Greenlaw (6 miles).
The charming market town of Kelso (8 miles) only 15 minutes’ drive away is very well-served with plenty of shops and lots of pubs and restaurants to try out. It is also home to a horse racing course with a programme of fixtures throughout the year and the impressive show ground in the town hosts events such as the Border Union Show and the Scottish National Scooter Rally every summer that draw in visitors from all over the UK.
Berwick-upon-Tweed (15 miles) has all the shops and supermarkets you could need and a series of wonderful sandy beaches are dotted along the picturesque Berwickshire coastline that are ideal to head across to for day trips.
Further up the coast at St Abbs Head (19.5 miles) is a National Nature Reserve where in spring/summer the cliffs become home to one of Britain’s biggest seabird colonies with guillemots, razorbills and kittiwakes to name but a few. Dolphins can often be spotted and some lucky visitors have even managed to see puffins.
