Overview

What was once a humble wooden cabin has been converted into a cosy, romantic retreat with lots of its original character and traditional wood-panelling.

Inside, the main living area is open plan with a wood-burning stove that keeps it nice and toasty and comfy seating that is situated to take full advantage of the amazing seascape.

The kitchen area is very well-equipped for a cabin (it even has a dishwasher) and there is a neat little dining area where you can enjoy lingering evening meals together.

The cosy little double bedroom has its bed positioned right in front of the window so you can enjoy the amazing view when you wake up every morning. The bathroom is fresh and bright and has a handy little curtained off utility area where the washing machine and tumble dryer hide.

The cabin is set down a short track with parking just in front and steps up to the door. The sloping grassed garden (care to be taken) has a pleasant seating area from which you can admire the expansive vista and even see as far as the islands of Colonsay, Jura and Islay on a good day.

Map & Local

The ferry from Oban on the mainland arrives into Craignure (24 miles), where there are a couple of little shops and a 9-hole golf course that is set right on the coast. History enthusiasts will enjoy visiting both Torosay Castle and Duart Castle, the ancestral home of the MacLean clan.

The village of Pennyghael (4 miles) has a little grocery shop/PO and a hotel bar/restaurant serving evening meals. Fishing is available on the Pennyghael Estate and there is excellent walking all around the island. For a real challenge you could even try tackling Ben More, the only peak on Mull that is classified as a Munro.

There is a coastal walking route that starts at Carsaig Pier and leads along the shoreline to the Carsaig Arches, a pair of beautiful natural stone sea arches. It is a tough, rocky route, so make sure you are well-equipped if you are going to try it – if you do you will be rewarded by a gorgeous view of these natural wonders.

There are some shops and a small supermarket in Bunessan (13 miles) and a petrol station at Ardfenaig (16 miles) on the way to Fionnphort (19 miles). Boat trips run from Fionnphort over to the uninhabited island of Staffa with its fascinating Fingal’s Cave. This sea cave is made up of huge hexagonal basalt columns and you can walk all the way inside to appreciate its amazing natural acoustics. You can also leave the car behind for the day and take the passenger ferry from Fionnphort over to the beautiful Isle of Iona to explore on foot.

Mull has a wealth of wildlife with lots of red deer, otters and seabirds, as well as seals and dolphins out at sea. At Ledmore (32 miles) near Salen you can take a guided tour with Mull Eagle Watch and hopefully see some of the resident white-tailed eagles (sea eagles). These impressive birds of prey are a marvel to watch soaring through the air and have wing-spans that can measure up to 2.5 metres!

The island’s only town Tobermory (37 miles) is well known for its colourful houses that line the harbour and in recent years has found fame as the location for the children’s TV programme ‘Balamory’. There is plenty to see in the town with lots of little shops, a whisky distillery, a museum and even an interesting ‘catch and release’ aquarium. Ferries from Kilchoan on the mainland also arrive into Tobermory.
