Overview

Situated within easy walking distance of Tayvallich (0.5 miles) on the most westerly peninsula of north Argyll, it is reached by a single track road where the only sounds are the wildlife and the sea. Sand, pebbles and the old fishing jetty of Carsaig Bay are on your doorstep, yet this beautiful, secluded and coveted spot can be reached in less than three hours from Glasgow and Edinburgh.

The characterful house sits in some thirty acres of delightful grounds overlooking Carsaig Bay and beyond to the magnificent westerly panorama of the Sound of Jura, from Scarba and the infamous Corryvreckan whirlpool in the north, to the Paps of Jura in the south.

Designed for its fantastic location in the late 1960's, this relaxed beach house boasts large picture windows to frame the wonderful views outside and offers all of the comforts one would expect from a holiday home. This includes a bright sitting room which opens onto a secluded deck where al fresco eating, or in the evening, the West Coast's famous sunsets can be enjoyed. There is also a small wood-burning stove that supplements the oil central heating.

Outside the south-facing deck leads to the beautiful natural grounds (not enclosed) that surround the house. Carsaig Bay’s lovely sandy beach, a safe playground for children, is just a 3 minute walk down a path.

PLEASE NOTE: There is a steep cliff at the end of the garden to the front of the cottage. Although it is fenced, care should taken, particularly with children. Due to internal and external sets of steps those of limited mobility may find some difficulty. The last 300 metres of the arrival track is untarred and uneven so should be driven slowly and with care – it is not suitable for low profile cars.

Map & Local

The vibrant village of Tayvallich can be reached in 15 to 20 minutes walk, where you can enjoy watching the harbourside activities from the superb bistro cafe which butts into the bay and serves delicious and imaginative breakfasts, lunches and teas.

Alternatively, you can sample the locally caught seafood at the well reknowned Tayvallich Inn whilst sitting in the sun at the water's edge. The area around the village is well known for its superb walking and biking trails, heritage and nature sites, artist studios, boating and kayaking.

There is also a picturesque tennis court which sits right on the edge of Tayvallich Bay, or for the more adventurous windsurfing is available in Carsaig Bay. Horse riding and golf are also available within 30 minutes drive.

The area is teeming with wildlife with otters, roe deer, badgers, grouse and sea eagles on the doorstep or take a visit to a nearby beaver habitat and osprey nest. Sea life also abounds, with seals regularly frequenting the bay and dolphins often spotted from the sitting room window and on rare occasions even the odd passing whale!

From April to October, Tayvallich offers an excellent twice daily passenger ferry service to Jura. In 40 minutes visitors can reach one of Europe's last remaining wilderness islands - a truly unique experience where deer outnumber humans ten to one! Desolate mountains, moors, palm trees (thanks to the warmth of the Gulf Stream), raised pebble and white sandy beaches can be enjoyed on foot or on hired bikes. Have high tea at the Isle of Jura Hotel or enjoy a dram at the popular Isle of Jura Distillery.
