The cottage’s name means ‘the burn of the deer’ and there are certainly plenty of friendly local deer to spot nearby. Inside, the warm and inviting sitting room has comfortable seating around its wood-burning stove that is the perfect place to relax after a day spent out exploring. There is a smart dining area alongside and the room is kept light and bright by French doors that lead out to the garden and allow you to admire the mountain views.
The central hallway leads through to the contemporary kitchen that looks out over the surrounding woodland. Just off the kitchen is a handy shower room with WC and there is also a neat twin bedroom on this level.
Upstairs there is a cosy master double bedroom with a king-size bed and a further spacious twin bedroom, both of which enjoy a lovely outlook. A family bathroom with bath and shower over completes the indoor accommodation. There is no forgetting that you are in the beauty of Glen Coe as some of the magnificent scenery has been captured in the wall art dotted around the cottage.
Outside parking for several cars is in the gravelled area right by the house. The enclosed garden is surrounded by trees on three sides and has a raised patio that looks out toward the view. A stream runs alongside the garden so care should be taken (particularly with children).
The cottage is perfect for walkers as the West Highland Way is literally on the doorstep and can be followed in either direction.
The route that leads up the mighty Buachaille Etive Mor also starts just opposite the cottage. The mountain, known as The Buachaille, has two munros on it called Stob Dearg and Stob na Broige and it takes about 6 hours to climb. The peaks were used as one of the sets in the Bond film Skyfall and you understand why when you see the amazing views from the summit.
The scenery is pretty spectacular in the whole area and photographers will be in their element with so much beauty to try and capture. There is also plenty of wildlife to look out for including red squirrels, golden eagles, otters, pine martens and lots of red deer.
The bar and restaurant at the Kings House Hotel (3 miles) is just a 5 minute drive away and there is skiing and snowboarding at the Glencoe Mountain Resort (4 miles). The resort also has mountain biking trails that have the added bonus of a chairlift to take you back up to the top so you can have another go.
There is a supermarket in Ballachulish (10 miles) where there is a golf course, segway tours and a leisure centre with swimming pool. Paddle Lochaber offers sea kayaking adventures out on Loch Leven (which feeds into Loch Linnhe) and Seaxplorer run fast boat trips, fishing trips and wildlife spotting trips from Ballachulish harbour.
The Ice Factor at Kinlochleven (16 miles) is a great place to spend an afternoon tackling the various different climbing walls and aerial adventure courses.
