Set in extensive grounds up its own private drive, it has wonderful views out over the loch to Glen Coe and the Cruachan mountain ranges beyond. Inside it has been lovingly modernised and refurbished to a very high standard throughout to create an idyllic sanctuary set up perfectly just for two. It is the ideal location for a romantic getaway or honeymoon or for those simply looking for a peaceful break in beautiful surroundings.
The open plan living area is cosy yet and spacious with plenty of comfortable seating around the wood-burning stove that is ideal for warming your toes as you watch the sun go down. There are large windows that showcase the views out across Loch Creran and a French door that leads out to the full length deck (with furniture). It is a great spot to enjoy evening drinks or al fresco breakfasts whilst further admiring the loch. There is plenty of in-house entertainment provided in the form of a large flat screen satellite TV with Blu-ray DVD player and a wireless audio system. A neat dining area leads round to the sleek, contemporary kitchen that is well-equipped with smart built-in appliances.
The luxurious double bedroom has sumptuous bedding and a floor to ceiling window that offers stunning views. The shower room is modern and fresh with a spacious, walk-in shower with large rainfall showerhead. It even has a Bluetooth mirror that you can play music through from your phone. There is also a charming sun room or 'sitooterie' (colloquial term meaning 'place to sit out in') that has additional comfy seating and plenty of storage for coats and muddy boots, etc.
Outside there is ample parking for several cars and gardens to the front and rear that extend to about an acre in total, with a large garage that provides secure storage for bikes and kayaks. There are a couple of different seating areas within the grounds and woodland paths that lead up the hillside and back down to the cottage. There is a pond at the bottom of the garden and a burn to one side, so care should be taken.
Please note: Anam Cara is not suitable for children.
There is direct boat, canoe or kayak access down on the shore of Loch Creran and Anam Cara is also just off the Oban to Fort William cycle path if you prefer exploring on dry land.
The nearest settlement is the village of Benderloch (2.5 miles) that has a couple of shops and restaurants and a petrol station. It is also home to Tralee beach, a lovely long sandy beach that overlooks picturesque Ardmucknish Bay.
If you head up around Loch Creran you will find the Scottish Sea Life Santuary (3 miles) that has a range of interesting sealife and is also a rescue centre for seals. Carrying up around the loch, no visit to the area would be complete without a trip to see the famous Castle Stalker (10 miles), one of Scotland’s most photographed landmarks. There is also a riding centre nearby that offers horse riding and pony trekking, some of which is on local beaches. A bit further on is the village of Port Appin (12 miles) from which you can cross by ferry over to the Isle of Lismore.
Heading south you cross over Loch Etive via the Connel bridge to Connel (5.5 miles), which has a shop/PO and a few different restaurants. You can then carry on to Dunstaffnage Marina (7 miles) to see the boats or a bit further to Dunstaffnage Castle (8 miles). The castle is partially ruined but you are still able to wander around it and explore the surrounding woodland and chapel.
Oban (10 miles) has a wide range of interesting shops, as well as supermarkets, pubs, restaurants and a train station. Ferries also run from the town out to Mull and Iona, as well as further afield to Coll, Tiree and North and South Uist.
Wildlife boat trips also run from Oban with the chance to spot a variety of seabirds (including golden eagles), otters, seals, dolphins and even whales and basking sharks. For a bit of an adrenalin rush there is also a fast boat ride that gets right up close to the churning Corryvreckan whirlpool.
