Overview

Braleckan is one of our longstanding properties that was once separated into smaller houses and has now been beautifully refurbished, modernised and turned back into a stylish and spacious detached house.

Inside the accommodation is warm and welcoming making it ideal for holidays with family or a group of friends, with plenty of space to spread out into. The cosy sitting room has comfy L-shaped seating and a wood-burning stove at its heart and the well-equipped kitchen has plenty of room for cooking with its handy central island, charming window seat and dining area at one end for enjoying relaxed evening meals.

There is also a useful utility room and WC on this level, as well as a double bedroom. This bedroom has a modern en suite shower room, as well as the added benefit of its own TV/quiet room above (up a separate flight of stairs) that is a great place to escape to for some peace and quiet.

Upstairs there are two further attractive double bedrooms (one with king-size bed and en suite shower room), two pretty twin bedrooms and a modern bathroom with a bath and large walk-in shower.

Outside the enclosed garden (with furniture) faces south with sweeping views to the Cowal hills and there is parking right at the door. It was across the surrounding hills that, for many years and not so long ago, cattle-drovers herded thousands of head of cattle over the Muir of Leckan towards the markets and pack-horses transported charcoal to the nearby village of Furnace on what came to be known as 'the much frequented path'.

The bustle and commotion then near Braleckan must have been tremendous, but nowadays the peace has been restored, so that you can wake to the song of the wild birds and the rushing stream and enjoy rewarding walks over the same paths.

Map & Local

At the end of the drive to the house and just across the road is the Auchendrain Farming Museum, which provides a fascinating insight into how the locals used to live and work way back in the 'good old days'.

Inveraray (6.5 miles), the nearby small town, will be familiar from the appearance of its distinctive black and white frontage featured on many scenic Scottish souvenir calendars.

The Castle and Jail there are well-known tourist attractions which should not be missed and it also has plenty of interesting small shops and good eating places. At the head of the loch you can sample the local seafood at the famous Loch Fyne Smokery and Oyster Bar (14.5 miles) or take a stroll around the pretty Ardkinglas Woodland Gardens (18.5 miles).

To the south the 50 acre Crarae Gardens also beg to be explored and there are lovely picnic spots along the towpath of the Crinan Canal at Ardrishaig (21.6 miles) where you can watch the boats negotiating the locks.

Braleckan house is a great central base with good road access to places such as Oban, Fort William, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. There is also the whole of the Mull of Kintyre to explore to the south and wonderful scenery and history in the immediate vicinity without having to travel too far.
