Overview

Tigh Liza is an enchanting cottage in the crofting community of Arivegaig near Acharacle on the glorious Ardnamurchan peninsula in Western Scotland.

In an area renowned for its wildlife and scenic views out to the Inner Hebrides, the cottage stands in its own one acre garden ground, amid trees. This is a traditional Highland cottage which has been in the owner's family for three generations. It has been lovingly restored and refurbished to create a most comfortable and welcoming holiday home that is bright and well-insulated, with oil central heating and the cosiest of ambiences.

The sitting room retains half-height wood panelling and has a multi-fuel stove set into a pine fire surround for additional warmth and atmosphere. There is also a pleasant conservatory to the front with views to Kentra Bay and over to Ben Laga, just right for enjoying the surroundings when the weather may be less than balmy and perfect to sit in if you want to keep a watch on the abundant local wildlife.

The kitchen is well-equipped and fitted with a good range of appliances. In the spacious and attractive dining room the feature fireplace has been retained, with the table having pride of place by the window. A modern family bathroom with a bath and separate shower completes the downstairs accommodation.

Upstairs are two good bedrooms, a double and a twin, that are both of a very good size, with slightly sloping ceilings and Velux windows for additional light. They are most attractively furnished, and in the double the original cast iron fireplace makes another pleasant feature. There is also a handy drying room.

Outside there is an extensive grassed garden and a large secure stable that is available for storing bikes.

Map & Local

Acharacle is only about 3 miles away and has some small shops and a hotel. From there you can head south, turning right at Salen and head west to Kilchoan (ferry to Mull) and the westernmost point of mainland Britain with its Stevenson lighthouse or the fabulous beaches at Sanna.

To the north, a scenic coastal road takes you to join the 'Road to the Isles' at Lochailort and on to Arisaig, Morar (more silver beaches) and Mallaig, with ferries to Skye. Nearer to home are the popular Singing Sands and Ardtoe beaches.

The area teems with wildlife and most of the village has been designated as a site of special scientific interest (SSSI), due to its wild flowers and spectacular mosses. A vast array of birds and animals make this area their home and pine martens, buzzards and eagles can be seen, as can seals, dolphins and whales in the offshore waters.

It is a world away from the noise and bustle of busy cities and a place where you will be able to recharge your batteries and return refreshed (but reluctant) to everyday life at the end of your stay.
