Overview

Sitting mere steps from the shore of Loch Fyne, one of Scotland’s longest sea lochs, on the Castleton Estate is Shore Cottage, a homely detached house in an idyllic spot that is perfect for enjoying the wonderful coastline spread out before you.

Family holidays here can be spent paddling, fishing or simply sitting enjoying the fantastic waterside location with days out that can be followed by all gathering around the fire in the evenings – how cosy!

The sitting/dining room is open plan and bright and airy due to its many windows. There is a dining area and comfy seating around the open fire and the room is partly open to the neat kitchen that has been designed so that everything is easily to hand. There is also a handy shower room just off the main living accommodation.

In the downstairs double bedroom there is a chaise longue to stretch out on and an open staircase leads from the sitting/dining room up to a large, sunny reading room and a modern bathroom with a walk-in shower and a huge bath for a relaxing steep.

All that separates the house from the loch is the lawn and there is a cute little bridge that can be crossed to discover the full extent of the garden. A path leads right down to the water where everyone can appreciate the peace and tranquillity of this secluded stretch of coastline. Sit right at the door and take in the ever-changing scene of the loch or head out walking straight from the house. Shore's sister property, Pier Cottage, is just 100/150 metres away (but not in sight) so it is perfect for larger parties holidaying together.

Map & Local

Nearby Lochgilphead (3 miles), at the head of Loch Gilp, is the place to head for a meal or drink whilst out and about or for stocking up on some shopping.

At the Moine Mhòr Nature Reserve (10 miles) in the Kilmartin Glen the wild, wetland habitat is home to mosses, lichens, newts, butterflies and dragonflies galore. Rising from the bog is the fascinating Dunadd Fort where many ancient Scottish kings have been crowned over the years.

Kilmartin Glen is also where numerous archaeological sites can be found from the Nether Largie Standing Stones, to the Temple Wood Stone Circle and a few different prehistoric cairns.

Just over half an hour’s drive away at Kennacraig (21 miles) a ferry service runs over to the beautiful Isle of Islay, Colonsay or up to Oban from where further ferries head out to the further flung islands of the west coast.

Over on the western side of the peninsula is the picturesque Tayvallich (15 miles), a very pretty fishing village that has a very well positioned Inn looking out over the water and specialising in the delicious local seafood that is abundant in the area.
