Overview

Set up perfectly and spaciously for two, it is the ideal romantic retreat for those looking to try some of the many activities that are on offer in the area known as the ‘outdoor capital of the UK’.

The house offers comfort and contemporary style, with a wood-burning stove and huge feature windows that make it light and bright. Parking space is by the door and the garden area is surrounded by pretty trees including oak, birch and pine. Outdoor seating has been placed on the stone patio, that is accessed through a huge sliding glass door, to allow for al fresco dining whilst taking in the wonderful views.

Am Bothan was designed around the theme of the traditional Scottish bothy, with the upstairs bedroom area an inspired reimagination of the sleeping platforms found in those wilderness havens. It features a king-size bed, oak finishes and glass balustrades and is warmed by the wood-burning stove’s feature flue.

Everything is easily to hand in the open plan living area with a smart, fully-equipped, L-shaped kitchen at one end of the room with the dining table alongside. A large sofa faces the wood-burning stove, smart TV and picture window. A Bluetooth Marshall speaker provides the sounds.

The contemporary shower room features a huge walk-in shower with designer fittings and tiling, with heated mirror and floor tiles. Heat and hot water is provided by an eco-conscious air-source heat pump.

There are plenty of chances for wildlife spotting with a wide range of birdlife, pine martens and red squirrels being among the delights that may be seen. As the garden is by the track for the Pap of Glencoe it is very easily accessible and is just one of the many scenic walks that can be enjoyed nearby.

Am Bothan is adjoined by its sister property Anamchara that shares the parking area, but both properties have different-facing outlooks and their own patio areas.

Map & Local

The rugged landscape of Glencoe is one of the most beautiful in Scotland with lots of the iconic sights being recognisable to many even before visiting. Some of them are particularly familiar from films such as James Bond’s Skyfall and the third Harry Potter film, both of which filmed scenes here.

A great way to see the local wildlife up close is on a boat trip on the Seaxplorer from Ballachulish (2 miles). The powerboat allows for further exploration of Loch Leven and Loch Linnhe with porpoises, otters, seals and even impressive sea eagles to look out for along the way.

Ballachulish is also home to the Woodlands Glencoe Resort where the lovely 9 hole golf course is very interesting to play as it is set right along the lochside with wonderful views to take in. As well as golf there are activities such as archery, laser clay pigeon shooting, segway tours and e-bike hire to have a go at for something a little bit different.

It is easy to join up with the section of the West Highland Way walking route that runs from Altnafeadh (8 miles) to Kinlochleven. On the way to Altnafeadh it is well worth stopping off to see Glencoe Falls (also known as The Meeting of Three Waters). A path leads down to the pool at the bottom of the waterfall where the roar of the water can be deafening depending on the weather, although it is still impressive when viewed from the bridge above.

The Ice Factor at Kinlochleven (7.5 miles) has rock climbing (with taster sessions for novices) and also ice climbing on a huge wall that is made of 500 tonnes of real snow and ice! Skiers and snowboarders are in luck as they have the choice of the renowned Glencoe Mountain Resort (12 miles) or the Nevis Range Mountain Resort (23 miles) in easy reach nearby.
