Overview

Built for a sea captain the property offers both comfort and style in a tranquil rural setting accessed via a single track road. It is warm, welcoming and well placed for people who want to get away from it all and explore the picturesque surroundings.

French doors in the cosy sitting room perfectly frame Glenborrodale Bay, Loch Sunart and the Morvern hills beyond. They lead out on to a south-west facing deck with a seating area and a fire pit in the garden beyond. Evenings can be spent relaxing with the wood-burning stove blazing away, watching TV or admiring the sea views. Downstairs has a separate snug with an L-shaped sofa, a window seat, sea views and a second TV.

The kitchen/dining room has a hand-crafted Scots Pine table with plenty of space for everyone to enjoy meals or plan the itinerary for the following day. There is a downstairs WC and shower room.

Upstairs are three spacious and attractive bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, en suite shower room and mountain views of Ben Laga. There is a second double bedroom and a twin room both with elevated sea views over Glenborrodale Bay and a family bathroom completes the accommodation on this level.

The adjacent cabin that is accessed from the shared deck offers additional space to relax, play and admire the spectacular sea vista. There is a large sitting room area with a TV and an electric log-effect stove that gives off a warming glow. At the front of the cabin is a double aspect sunroom area with a telescope for exploring the dark skies at night and wildlife during the day. The area is known for its wildcats, pine martins, red deer, seals, otters and porpoises so there is plenty to look out for. Additional facilities include air hockey, a games console, a card/crafting table and board games so it is the ideal place to relax and have fun with the family.

The cabin has its own WC, a kitchenette with facilities for making tea, coffee or a warming hot chocolate and a utility area with laundry facilities. From the sunroom French doors open out onto the deck to the natural garden beyond.

Map & Local

Pretty woodland walks lead around the Glenborrodale RSPB Reserve (0.5 miles) where redstarts, skylarks, wood warblers, merlins and even golden eagles can be seen. The Ardnamurchan Distillery a couple of miles further round the loch is well worth a visit for a distillery tour to learn about the distillation process followed by a browse in the shop to pick some up to take home.

Just along from the distillery is the Ardnamurchan Natural History and Visitor Centre where fascinating exhibits explain the geology of the area and the wildlife that call it home.

Ardnamurchan Charters (2 miles) do excellent boat trips that tour Loch Sunart with otters, seals and birdlife to look out for along the way or trips over to Mull with the chance to catch the stunning sight of sea eagles soaring in the skies above. Further ‘island hopping’ to the other Inner Hebridean isles is also available, as is self-drive boat hire for those wishing to take to the water themselves.

Stock up at the Jetty Shop in Salen (7 miles) where there is also a hotel restaurant and bar if a break from cooking is on the agenda and, while in the area, a stop off at the sandy Ardtoe beach (14 miles) is a must.

A plethora of walking routes run around the peninsula with the nearby coastal route Camus nan Geall being a particularly interesting one with a range of terrains and great views of the coast. For more of a challenge Ben Hiant (5.5 miles) can be tackled to reach the highest point on the peninsula.
