Tigh-A-Chreagan is a traditional croft cottage that occupies a secluded, elevated position just half a mile from the sea and 4 miles from the village of Applecross on the stunning Applecross peninsula, Wester Ross.

The name (pronounced ‘tie a chreckan’) means ‘house on the rocks’, referring to the cottage’s charming coastal location. Inside, the sitting room is warm and welcoming with its original wood-panelled ceiling and seating around the multi-fuel stove that is ideal to curl up in front of.
The well-equipped kitchen has another wood-burning stove and a handy little dining area. It is supplemented by a laundry/boot room (accessed from the garden) that provides useful additional storage. Also downstairs, tucked away in an unusual place spot under the stairs, is the family bathroom.
Upstairs there are two cosy, wood-panelled bedrooms, a double and a twin, that have quite steeply coombed ceilings (not suitable for taller guests) and Velux roof windows that provide lovely views out over the hills. The bedrooms share a storage area with hanging space.
Outside is a pretty walled off garden area (with furniture) that is surrounded by trees and laid mainly to grass with a little raised deck with a chiminea for BBQs. You can even see the sea from the end of the garden. The cottage is accessed by a steep pathway with parking on the roadside at the bottom of the hill.
Please note: Due to its situation, Tigh-A-Chreagan is not suitable for wheelchair users or people with limited mobility.
There are lots of lovely walks from the cottage out into the surrounding countryside and the quiet, single track roads are particularly suitable for exploring by bike. It is an easy half mile walk along to Toscaig pier where fishing is available - it is particularly well known for its mackerel fishing in the summer.
A mobile shop visits Toscaig weekly and the village of Applecross (4 miles) has a shop, a PO and a self service petrol station. It is also home to well known restaurants The Applecross Inn, with its great selection of seafood, and The Potting Shed restaurant in the grounds of Applecross House. Mountain and Sea Guides based in the village offer a variety of outdoor activities including mountaineering, sea kayaking and canoeing, rock climbing and abseiling.
The Applecross peninsula is known for its beautiful landscape and its peace and tranquillity. It also has an abundance of wildlife including golden eagles, sea eagles, otters and seals, as well as roe and red deer up in the hills.
There are lots of beautiful beaches in the area including spectacular Applecross Bay and the delightful Coral beaches at Culduie (1.5 miles) and Sands Bay located on the North Coast 5 miles from Applecross Village.
The peninsula is reached by the Bealach na Ba (or ‘pass of the cattle’), a dramatic mountain pass that rises to over 2,000 feet. It is not for the faint hearted with lots of steep drops and hairpin bends, but brave travellers are rewarded with absolutely spectacular views out towards Skye, Raasay and the Outer Hebrides islands from the top. If you prefer, there is also a longer but rather less perilous route.

excellent place to stay 2nd time and just as good
Really excellent !!
I know this cottage very well form my childhood and as always it was a loveloy place to be
a little basic and not quite what we expected and no view but adequate.
