Overview

One of these is Drumbuie, where you will find Drynoch, a typical and traditional Highland cottage now expertly renovated for modern living. It stands on the little village street with open views across the croft land before it. Parking is easily accessed just by turning off the road and to the back of the cottage, on the other side of a yard, is a working steading belonging to the owners.

The renovation has been a labour of love for them and guests will surely agree that the result has been well worth the effort. Ancient Highland cottages are not renowned for their light and space, but every inch at Drynoch has been used to the best effect, with no loss of character.

The living area is open plan, with a feature fireplace with electric stove at one end and a very smart and well-equipped kitchen and dining area at the other. There is no doubt that the spectacular exposed stone chimney breast around the stove is the dominant feature of the living area and accentuates the ceiling, which in turn gives the cottage a lovely airy feel. The kitchen has plenty of room for food preparation and the neat dining table against the opposite wall is conveniently placed for serving up.

All on one level there is a double bedroom that is neat and compact with a smart and modern en suite shower room. Velux windows create a light and bright feeling, while the underfloor heating keeps everything cosy. All in all, Drynoch Cottage is a very comfortable and chic retreat that is perfect just for two.

Map & Local

Once established here, you'll want to make the most of the area. Kyle (3.5 miles) has all facilities, including a supermarket and from there the toll-free bridge will take you across to the Isle of Skye and the many delights of that lovely island.

The picturesque village of Plockton, with the yachts bobbing in the bay and its palm-fringed shoreline, little shops and superb eating places, is equidistant in the other direction and both of these places have railway halts as well.

To the south-east, you can visit iconic Eilean Donan Castle, walk/climb the Five Sisters of Kintail or take the road over the shoulder of Mam Ratagan to Glenelg. In summer, the little turntable ferry goes across to Kylerhea on the Isle of Skye, where there is an otter hide. That circuit makes for an excellent day trip.

Further afield to the north, you can visit the unique Applecross Peninsula, with the magnificent mountains of Torridon beyond. You can even take what has been described as the 'third most beautiful rail journey in the world' from Kyle to Inverness for a day in the bustling capital of the Highlands.
