Overview

Just before entering the village, if you turn right and head 6 miles along the coast to the end of the road, you will come to the little community of Reiff (with pub) and The Haven.

This traditional stone cottage too has a perfectly heavenly situation, south-facing and side on to the wee road, its enclosed grass garden runs right down to the rocky foreshore, with glorious sea views from the kitchen windows.

The interior, while unpretentious, is very well presented and most comfortably furnished. There is a bright, modern dining kitchen and a snug sitting room with an electric flame effect fire for cosy evenings when darkness falls (which, in the summer, is hardly at all).

There are two attractive bedrooms, a double and a twin room, that make The Haven ideal for a small family.

Map & Local

Relaxing, watching the ever-changing seascape, beachcombing - these are all likely pursuits in this lovely spot.

If the mountains beckon, several of the most iconic in Scotland, Stac Pollaidh, the Coigach and Suilven, are almost on the doorstep. Choose a really lovely day and take the 'wee mad road' to Lochinver (16 miles). The views are utterly mind-blowing and you must stop at Inverkirkaig to visit the café/bookshop in the middle of nowhere and take the path up to the Kirkaig Falls and on to the lonely lochan below Suilven itself.

From Ullapool, once a thriving herring port and indeed consciously designed as such by Thomas Telford, you can take the ferry to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, or local boat trips to explore Loch Broom and the coastal waters. The town also has a good golf course.

From Achiltibuie too boat trips to view the local wildlife can be arranged, as can fishing in the lochs in the area. The village has a well-stocked general store and also boasts the famous Summer Isles Hotel (open April to the end of October, while the bar is sometimes open through the winter as well).
