This warm and appealing cottage has been lovingly restored to its former glory with the main living accommodation cleverly set out upstairs to make the most of the wonderful views. Everything is easily to hand as the main living accommodation is light, bright and open plan with seating around the wood-burning stove at one end of the room, a dining area in the middle and a spacious kitchen with a large range cooker at the other end.
A central staircase leads down to the two double bedrooms, a modern shower room with a walk-in shower and a separate WC. There is also a handy little utility area in the entrance porch that houses the laundry facilities.
Outside to the front the rough, enclosed grassed garden looks out towards the waters of Loch Bay with wild croftland beyond that leads right down to the shoreline. On a good day you can even see as far over as the Western Isles.
Please note: Due to the cottage’s layout and location it is unfortunately not suitable for those with limited mobility.
Waternish is one of a series of four peninsulas that project from the north coast of Skye looking like fingers protruding from a central palm. The area is often bypassed on the way to other places but it is actually quite the hidden gem.
The Stein Inn (2.5 miles), known as the oldest inn on Skye, that is well worth a visit for a warm welcome and some excellent food and if the weather is fine there are picnic tables by the shore for al fresco dining.
There is a well-stocked local shop at Dunvegan (6 miles) where you can also visit the fascinating Giant Angus Macaskill Museum that celebrates the life of the tallest Scotsman ever to have lived who stood at a very impressive 7 foot 8. Marvel at his giant bed and have your photo taken with his likeness to fully appreciate his size.
Pretty Portree (20 miles) is about half an hour’s drive away with its lovely colourful houses that nestle around the picturesque bay and the Aros centre that is a hub for events throughout the year with everything from live music and theatre performances to cinema showings.
At the top of the Waternish peninsula on the shore of Loch Dunvegan near Claigan (11 miles) is a particularly picturesque coral beach that just begs to be explored. It is about 25 minutes’ walk from the car park but when you arrive you are rewarded with magnificent views out across the white coral to the gorgeous turquoise waters beyond.
