Overview

Situated up a rough track, this charming croft house has been modernised and extended to create a cheerful and welcoming holiday home. The main accommodation is open plan with cosy seating arranged by the wood-burning stove at one end of the room and an elegant dining kitchen with a large range cooker at the other.

A separate utility room houses the laundry facilities and has a handy pulley rack for drying wet clothes neatly out of the way. There is also a double bedroom and a modern wet room style shower room on this level and the sunroom at the front of the house has French doors that allow you to really appreciate your surroundings and ‘bring the outdoors in’.

An open wooden staircase leads upstairs to the two bedrooms, a double and a twin, and an attractive family bathroom where there is the choice of a shower or a relaxing soak in the roll-top bath. Off the spacious landing is a study/snug where you can catch up on some work or simply relax with a book.

There is plenty of parking and about 3 acres of rough meadowland grounds around the house, although there are some boggy and raised areas so care should be taken. There are wonderful views out to sea, the isles of Canna and Rum and the southern end of the Black Cuillin mountain range to admire and there is even a stone in the grounds that came from an ancient chapel and is said to have ‘mystical properties’.

Map & Local

In easy walking distance is the sandy beach at Tarskavaig Bay that just begs to be explored and offers some amazing views of the Black Cuillin mountains – it is also a picturesque place to enjoy a stunning sunset.

Climbers will want to tackle the Black Cuillins for themselves with a variety of terrain to cover and magnificent views to be admired from the top. It is also one of the few places on the island where stunning golden eagles can be spotted, so bird watchers will be in their element.

Just 15 minutes’ drive from the house are the ruins of Dunscaith Castle that stand on a rocky island on Loch Eishort. As the drawbridge that crossed over to the castle is no longer intact it is not safe to access it but wonderful views of the castle and the Small Isles beyond can still be enjoyed from the coastline.

From Mallaig over on the mainland, the ferry arrives into Armadale (7.5 miles), or there is the option of driving across the Skye bridge that brings you in to Kyleakin (23.5 miles). The Sleat peninsula is known as being somewhat of a paradise for foodies as there are several excellent restaurants to try out, particularly around Armadale.

The area is a haven for wildlife and, in particular, there are lots of red deer found all over the peninsula and whales, otters and dolphins to keep an eye out for off the picturesque coast.
