Overview

The view over the water and across to the strange, flat-topped hills known as MacLeod's Tables is simply beautiful and the excellence of the house is on a par with its setting.

The large sitting room that has one wall made almost entirely of picture windows, giving guests ample opportunity to enjoy the magnificent view from the comfortable seating. The expansive kitchen/dining area is modern and well-equipped with plenty of space for both cooking and dining. There is also a separate utility room that houses the laundry facilities.

The large master bedroom with king-size bed has an en suite shower and there are two further twin bedrooms and a large family bathroom with a bath and shower. As an additional bonus there is a second enormous sitting room/games room with snooker table, darts board and TV/DVD at the top of the spiral staircase, so there is plenty of room to spread out and for children and adults alike to relax.

There is parking right at the door and there is also free use of the jetty below the house if you wish to bring your own boat. Essentially, at Marchbank you have your own stretch of seashore, where children can play and adults explore, perhaps catching a glimpse of an elusive otter in the process. Seals and all manner of seabirds are frequently to be seen and you may even be lucky enough to spot a sea eagle. Do please, however, keep the gate shut or you may have wildlife coming to see you in the form of the nosy local sheep. Marchbank really does have it all!

Map & Local

Historic Dunvegan with shops, restaurants and its famous castle and gardens is just 7 miles away and from there you can take boat trips out to the seal islands.

The 'capital' of Skye, Portree, is just a half an hour’s drive from the cottage and the excellent roads in this part of the island mean that most of the island is quite accessible for a day's outing.

You can visit the Talisker Distillery at Carbost on Loch Harport (careful, there are two Carbosts on the island), head into the Red Cuillin from Sligachan, or for some less strenuous exercise, play golf at Sconser (18 miles).

Another worthwhile excursion would take in the Trotternish Peninsula at the north of the island. From Portree, head north to the Old Man of Storr – it is a lovely and rewarding walk from the road up to the base of the ‘Old Man’. Just short of Staffin, after pausing to take in the Kilt Rock where the rock formations on the cliff look just like tartan and possibly take a stroll along the beach looking for more of the dinosaur footprints which were found here, continue north.

From there you can either bear left up the pass where there are more spectacular rock formations of the Quiraing or visit Duntulm Castle at the very top of the island, before returning via Uig, where the ferry sails for the Outer Hebridian islands. There is so much to see and do, though you may well be content just to chill out in the lovely surroundings of Marchbank.
