You might think you were the only folk on earth, were it not for the lights of Tobermory twinkling at you of an evening across the Sound of Mull!  Perched 500 feet above the Sound, Achleanan Farmhouse enjoys stunning views across to the mountains of Mull and out to the Atlantic beyond.  The house is surrounded by pasture and moorland, which is home to Scottish Blackface sheep, Galloway and Highland cattle, and roe and red deer.  The farm was once a producer of flax for linen, with the old stone flax tank still standing behind the house.

Situated in the 7,000 acres of the private Drimnin Estate, Achleanan is a place of great tranquillity, with the nearest habitation half a mile away.  Guests have access to the Estate's eight miles of coastline; its moors, valleys and native woodland; and the historic ruins of a Victorian chapel, Stone Age fort and walled crofting village.

Golden and sea eagles, pine martens and otters can all be seen on the Estate.   For the active, there are plenty of walks within the Estate - over hills, along the private track to the old ferry inn on Loch Sunart and around the coast.   There is  a ferry which plies back and forth every day between Lochaline (11 miles, hotel and restaurant) and Fishnish on Mull (no booking necessary).

Achleanan Farmhouse has recently been refurbished to an extremely high standard, retaining its traditional stone built exterior, while adding a sunroom/dining room with panoramic views.  Accommodation includes a cosy pine-panelled sitting room with wood burning stove, modern kitchen, three comfortable bedrooms and two bathrooms.  Double glazing and central heating ensure that the house is as welcoming in winter as it is in other seasons.

Beef, lamb and wild venison reared on the Drimnin Estate (subject to season) can be ordered for your arrival.  Bed linen and towels, oil fired central heating and electricity are all INCLUDED.  Pets are usually welcome by arrangement but are not allowed upstairs or in  the bedrooms.  Sorry, smoking is not allowed within the property.

The house was superb, clean, warm and comfortable. Shirley the caretaker was extra helpful. We ordered some beef and venison from her and it was amazing! We did a lot of walking and exploring the estate and went across to Tobermory by the little ferry from Drimnin. We hope to come again before long and would certainly recommend you to friends.

Stunning views, glorious countryside. Lovely welcome from Shirley and Davey. Have enjoyed exploring the area and seeing the golden eagles over Auliston - well worth a visit. Enjoyed our sealife boat adventure from Tobermory on Mull. This was my first visit to Scotland and Tracy arranged the sealife visit as my birthday pressie. We've had the best times, souls lifted again. If you like venison you must try Shirley & Davey's - most tender, can we live here forever, please?

Had 2 great weeks in this beautiful spot. Enjoyed watching the animals surrounding the property - including 'larry' the llama. Ended the holiday with a super trip on the steam train to Mallaig.
