One of Scotland's best kept secrets, the lovely Angus glens extend long fingers up from the smiling countryside round Forfar and Kirriemuir towards the rugged mountains of Deeside and Lochnagar. Glen Clova is the longest of these and here, almost at the top of the Glen and 12 miles from Kirriemuir, is Wheen Farmhouse, a traditional and substantial house, set in its own grass garden, where children can play in safety, with glorious views across the valley to the hills on the other side.
Inside, it has recently been refurbished by the owners to provide spacious, practical and most comfortable accommodation for up to ten people. Oil-fired central heating, open fires and double glazing ensure its cosiness.
You can walk out straight from the door into the hills, fish in the South Esk river or two nearby trout lochs and the estate can also arrange stalking in season. The Glen Clova Hotel is just three miles down the road. There is a good golf course at Kirriemuir (shops, hotels, restaurants), which is also the birthplace of J M Barrie, creator of Peter Pan. Dundee (all facilities, leisure centres etc.), where you can visit Captain Scott's vessel Discovery, is only 40 minutes away. There is a superb beach at Lunan Bay (34m), or you can cross the Tay Bridge at Dundee and head for St Andrews and the other attractions of Fife.
In the other direction, you can follow nearby Glen Isla up to the ski-ing area at Glenshee and onwards to Braemar (50m) for some serious walking and/or the beauties of Royal Deeside. The late Queen Mother's family home at Glamis is close by. Highland Perthshire, Pitlochry, Killiekrankie, Blair Atholl and even onwards up to Inverness - all are perfectly accessible from Wheen Farmhouse.
Bed linen, towels, central heating electricity and a starter pack of logs are all INCLUDED. Water is from a private supply (UV filtered). Well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement, but should be kept to the downstairs areas of the house.
Please note there will be an additional charge of £50 per person per week for a ninth or tenth person.
