For the perfect, picture-book retreat for a honeymoon, anniversary, birthday or just an extra special holiday, look no further than Meadowbank.  Reached by a short, steepish road from the little hamlet of Dalguise, this charming, roses-round-the-door, stone cottage sits in its own extensive orchard garden (barbecue) high above the valley of the Tay near Dunkeld in Highland Perthshire.

Inside, the owners have expended much love, care and excellent taste on its total refurbishment.  There is a cosy sitting room, with a wood burning stove, and additionally a large sun room at the back, kept toasty warm in all weathers by a cast-iron gas stove.  Sitting there you may well see deer, red squirrels, woodpeckers, jays and owls which are all frequent visitors  while buzzards and osprey are also regularly seen in the area.  And as if that wasn't enough, there is now a new, separate summerhouse in the garden, with comfy chairs, books, jigsaws and even art materials if you are minded to try to record some of the visiting wildlife.  Truly a house for all seasons!

The dining kitchen is very well fitted and equipped, and upstairs there is a delightful double bedroom and additional dressing room where an additional single bed can be installed (charge), which means that three can be accommodated just in case you don't succeed in keeping the place, as you will surely want to, all to yourselves!

This is a wonderful area for a holiday, accessible (just over an hour on good roads from Edinburgh), surrounded by wonderful scenery, and with lots to do and see.  Dalguise is a lively and friendly little hamlet with regular ceilidhs and concerts in its village hall.  Dunkeld (5m) has an excellent range of shops, eating places, art galleries, craft shops and a lovely cathedral to boot, while the county town and Fair City of  Perth (all facilities) is less than 20 miles away.

You can walk out on to the surrounding hills straight from the cottage, fish in the mighty Tay, go white water rafting at Grandtully, just up the road, and play golf at Dunkeld and Aberfeldy.    Day tickets can also be obtained for the Water Spa and Gym at the Dunkeld Hilton.

Heating is by night storage heaters, wood burner, electric stove and underfloor heating in the sunrom. £15 of electricity, a starter supply of logs, bed linen and towels are INCLUDED.  The cottage is supplied with spring water and there is a purification system in the cottage.  One well behaved dog is welcome by arrangement, but should be kept downstairs.  Sorry, no smokers.

Words fail to sum up just how wonderful a week we have had in your idyllic little cottage. Cosy, comfortable and welcoming, it has been a real home from home and far more picturesque than we'd hoped for. The goodies and welcoming message on arrival were a wonderful touching surprise. We've had a fabulous week with so much to see and do in breathtaking scenery. We'll definitely be back. Our only regret is that we can't pack the cottage up and take it with us.

WOW! This place just gets better and better. Thank you so much for your "welcome back" pack. Much needed after a long journey. We've had a wonderful week again. Plenty of walking. Even the dog is shattered. Loch Ordie, Glen Tilt, Birnam Hill were highlights followed by a relaxing beer in the summer house. We saw deer and red squirrels. We do love coming back here as it is a home from home with all your thoughtful touches. Thanks again.

We LOVE the new sun room, we LOVE the benign, protective tree wizard spirit - we LOVE everything here! Meadowbank is just the most beautiful perfect place to have a truly inspiring and restorative break! Thank you for making it SO beautiful, SO welcoming - a place to love and to keep coming back to. This has been our 5th visit and although we are sad to leave we are happy to plan our next visit.
