In a quiet situation, on a hill farm above the River Isla on the Perthshire/Angus border, Middleton Bothy is part of a row of unusual and attractive farm cottages.  It has its own adjacent parking and a small garden from which to enjoy the lovely south facing views.

It provides bijou studio accommodation, ideal for a honeymoon or simply for a relaxing holiday in beautiful countryside.  However, the accommodation has certainly been refurbished with romance in mind.  The draped double bed just begs to be slept in while several original features have been retained, such as the lancet windows and open fire, over which, when the bothy doubtless used to house an entire family, the soup would be stirred in a large pot.  You could do that too, if you wished, or take the simpler option and make use of the modern galley kitchen.

There is plenty of scope for excellent walking in the area; nearby Kirriemuir (all facilities) gives access to the beautiful Angus Glens, Prosen and Clova, or you can walk the Cateran Trail.  The quiet country roads roundabout provide plenty of opportunitues for cycling, and there are golf courses at Alyth (3m) and Kirriemuir, as well as the prestigious Rosemount courses at Blairgowrie.  Fishing is available on a number of lochs and rivers in the area.

Places to see include the waterfall at Reekie Linn, just a few minutes from the cottage, while historical sites such as Glamis Castle, Scone Palace, Balmoral, Blair Castle and Captain Scott's survey ship Discovery in Dundee are all within an easy drive.  Rather more distant, but still easily accessible for a day trip, are the beautiful lochs Tummel and Rannoch.  Wildlife enthusiasts may wish to visit the RSPB reserve at Kinordy, or see the ospreys on the Loch of the Lowes near Dunkeld.

The Bothy has electric heating and open fire.  Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED and electricity is payable by meter reading.  Sorry, no pets and smoking is not allowed within the Bothy.

Scotland is even more beautiful in the winter than we thought possible! We're so glad we found this cottage. When we came back after a day of touring it felt like coming home. We loved the fireplace and the open fire....it made our honeymoon cosy and memorable.

Simple but tastefully decorated cottage with a romantic cosy ambiance, situated in a rural idyll. We thoroughly enjoyed our week, well situated for visitor attractions including the stunning drive to Balmoral Castle. We will take back lots of happy memories, especially around the cottage where one day we saw wild deer on our rambles.

We very much enjoyed our stay. Scenery superb. Had great pleasure in watching the buzzards, red squirrels and to top it all, ospreys hunting over the Backwater reservoir.

We had a wonderful time. We especially liked the Reekie Linn Waterfall. We had long walks in the area. In the evenings we loved the open fire and did not use the television because of the peace we found here.
