The Neids is a traditional stone-built cottage nestling in a small grove of trees, a perfect hideaway and tucked away in a peaceful world of its own in the beautiful rolling foothills of Glen Isla, to the north east of Blairgowrie (shops, hotels, pubs, restaurants) in rural Perthshire.

Carefully restored by the owner, it provides comfortable and very well equipped accommodation for both small and larger parties.  It is an ideal spot for those who wish to relax and get away from the world and the noise of traffic, giving both adults and children the opportunity to enjoy the peace and freedom of the countryside, with wildlife in abundance.  It is also an excellent base for those who want to explore the many attractions of the area.

At the end of a hard track half a mile from the nearest country road, it is surrounded by its own fenced garden (furniture).  The River Isla is only 250 yards from the door, providing an excellent spot for picnics, swimming and barbecues.

The spacious living accommodation is very comfortable and cosy, heated by a combination of electric heaters and radiators fuelled by the back boiler.  There is an open fire in the L shaped sitting room and the dining area has a French window on to the garden.  Of the four bedrooms, one has an en-suite bathroom and there is a second bathroom with shower.  For the odd rainy day, there is also the godsend of a large play area upstairs.

The Angus glens are one of Scotland's best kept secrets, often overlooked by visitors hurrying north to the Highlands.  They are Glen Isla, Glen Clova and Glen Prosen, and, further away, Glen Lethnot and Glen Esk.  Isla, Clova and Prosen all start fairly quietly, but become increasingly wild and mountainous, and provide splendid walking country.

For golfers, there are numerous local courses to choose from.  One of the best is Rosemount in nearby Blairgowrie.  Riding and fishing are also available in the area.  There is an excellent beach at Lunan Bay (40m), just north of Arbroath (31m) (call in for fresh 'smokies', direct from the smokery), just over half an hour away.

Fishing in a stocked loch just two miles from the cottage is available by arrangement with the owner.

Blair Castle at Blair Atholl and Scone Palace, the ancient crowning place of the Kings of Scotland, are within an hour's drive.  Glamis Castle, the birthplace of the Queen Mother, is only 12 miles distant while Kirriemuir (10m) is the birthplace of J M Barrie, the author of Peter Pan.

Dundee (16m - all facilities) is within half an hour's drive.   There is a pleasant country park there at Camperdown with an excellent small zoo, while HMS Unicorn, the oldest British warship afloat, and Captain Scott's HMS Discovery are both moored in the harbour.  From there, it is an easy drive over the Tay Bridge to Fife and St Andrews (30m), with its fine beaches and legendary golf courses.   Perth (21m) has an excellent range of shops, leisure centre, ice-rink etc.  Aberdeen (64m) and Royal Deeside (40m) are also well worth a visit.

Heating is by oil-CH (£25 INCLUDED), electricity (£10 INCLUDED) and open-fire.  Bed-linen is INCLUDED and towels are available for hire.  Pets are welcome under control.  The twin-bed room upstairs is available for hire at an additional charge of £25. per person for each week.

Just what we wanted and expected, a gorgeous week in a lovely and peaceful location. The majority of the time we had snow falling, which made a beautiful scene around the Cottage and when it got dark, nothing better than sitting in front of the log fire enjoying s glass of wine and a good book.

Brocklebank Family, Lancashire 26/05/2007

The idyllic location is a wonderful place to relax. Visited the coastal towns of Fife, Blair Castle and Highland games. Beautiful scenery in nearby glens Clova and Prosen, walked along the Cateren Trail from Glenisla to Reekie Linn waterfall - a spectacular sight at any time but especially so after heavy rain. In the evenings we've enjoyed barbequces, walks in the hills, playing cricket or sitting by the log fire. It's been a pefect holiday.

Cottage was warm, cosy and very clean. Fished the river (6 Trout returned). Saw buzzards deer and a lot more wild life. Golfed at St Andrew's and Strathmore. One of the best Cottages we have stayed in 19 years of visiting Scotland.
