Cairnoch Lodge is a quite unique property in a quite unique setting. You reach it from the busy heart of Scotland, via the Edinburgh-Stirling or Glasgow-Stirling motorways, yet once you are off the motorway you are in another world, winding through the hills on a single track road, quite alone, and almost at the stage of wondering if there's anyone else left in the world beside yourselves!
The Lodge was once the chauffeur's cottage for a shooting lodge. It stands alone in substantial mature garden grounds - perfect for children to enjoy Famous Five-style adventuring, far from traffic. The only other dwelling nearby belongs to the owner's family, but this is quite out of sight over the hill. Apart from that there are just the open moors and lots of sheep!
Inside, the cottage is comfortable and homely. The sitting room with its wood burning stove and main bedroom have floor to ceiling windows which give a lovely light and airy effect (not to mention lovely views). There is a simple and rather quaint kitchen-diner, a further single bedroom and a room with bunk beds. Cairnoch now has new eco-credentials, electricity being powered by a wind turbine.
Walkers and cyclists will enjoy the possibilities offered by Cairnoch Lodge, where you can strike out into the hills in just about every direction. There are nearby lochans which can be fished (permits available) and forest mountain bike trails. Yet historic Stirling (castle, Wallace Monument, all facilities) is just 7 miles away and from there excellent motorway connections will take you swiftly to all points of the compass: Fife and St Andrews, Edinburgh, Perth and the Highlands beyond, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs can all be reached almost within the hour.
Heating is by electric heaters and wood-burning stove. Bed linen, towels and electricity are INCLUDED. Up to two well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement and smoking is not permitted within the cottage.
