Rose Cottage is a most attractive, detached cottage which sits in its own extensive garden grounds (furniture, summer house) on the side of a wooded hillside with lovely expansive views over open countryside, four miles from Strathdon and 43 miles from Aberdeen, within the Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands.    Well off the road and on a private track (steep but tarmac), it offers a peaceful, secluded and scenic retreat for a relaxing holiday.

Within, it is  spacious cosy,  and beautifully furnished, and, moreover, all on one level.  The sitting room has a wood-burning stove to complement the oil-fired central heating, there is a very well-appointed dining kitchen, while two bedrooms (one king-size and the other zip link, which can make another king-size), an additional dressing room and bathroom complete the accommodation.  Outside, there are patio areas to front and rear, and ample parking.  The porches to front and side are useful for shedding muddy boots and rainwear.

The walking from the cottage is really wonderful, of all gradients and levels of difficulty and enthusiasts will be reaching for their boots as soon as they settle in.  Ben Newe and The Buck are nearby, or you can walk all day along the ridge to the Lecht.

From here, it is but a short car journey to famous Royal Deeside, which you join either at Ballater (21m, all facilities) or to the east at Dinnet (hotel), passing the RSPB reserve at Loch Kinord and an Outward Bound adventure centre on the way.   In the other direction, you can take what is literally the 'high road' from Cockbridge to Tomintoul where you can join a spur of the Speyside Way and where you also will find yourself on the Whisky Trail.

The area has a number of castles and stately homes which are open to the public.  The nearest are probably Corgarff  and Kildrummy Castles, while a bit further on are the National Trust properties at Craigievar Castle and Leith Hall.  And of course, there is also the Queen's summer residence at Balmoral (24m).

For more energetic pursuits, you are just 15 miles from the Lecht ski area.  There is good walking straight from the door in the Ladder Hills which are close by, while just beyond are the mighty Grampians and Cairngorms.  Shooting and fishing are available locally and permits can be obtained.  There is also an abundance of bird life in the area, so ornithologists will be well catered for.

A day trip to the sunny, sandy beaches of the Moray Coast is perfectly feasible, as is a visit to the Granite City of Aberdeen.

The nearest shop is 4 miles away, and the nearest pub is 3 miles distant.

Heating by oil fired central heating (INCLUDED) and wood burning stove.  Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED.  Sorry, pets are not accepted and smoking is not permitted in the cottage.  Free broadband and off peak use of telephone is available at the cottage.

Normally going home after vacation is also nice. But this time it's a first that we do not want to go home. We feel right at home here and enjoy your comfortable and cosy cottage very much. Of course we also enjoy everything that this Scottish region has to offer as much as possible. The beautiful nature, wonderful little roads, fairytale like castles and all the friendly people. We had a vacation to remember forever, thank you very much.

It has been an unforgettable experience, waking up to frosty sunrises over the beautiful Scottish countryside. We had three glorious days of sunshine and even a little snow. It was one of the most relaxing holidays we've had and the beautiful, cosy cottage made it perfect...and dancing Scottish dances with the locals down in the townhall on Hogmanay is something we'll never forget.

This has been a perfect winter break! Peace and quiet in a fantastic cottage. The cottage is beautifully equipped. It was immaculate when we arrived. The walking has been ideal but we found the wood burning stove was always calling us back!
