The name is absolutely accurate.  Seaview Cottage occupies a commanding position on the hill above the harbour in the fishing port of Banff on the Moray coast, which is just a short walk down the grassy slope in front of the house.

The owners are well versed in creating a successful holiday home - they also own Granny Curly's Cottage along the coast in Gardenstown, and they have worked their magic again here at Seaview.  The traditional white and blue exterior reflects respect for the old fisherman's cottage it once was, and this care has extended to the interior, where modern comforts combine with carefully retained features such as the stripped wood latched doors.  It's remarkably spacious too.  The smart dining kitchen has loads of space for the plentiful appliances and a gas stove as well.  The sitting room has an electric stove and there is also an attractive small sun room to the rear which opens on to the shared garden.  Upstairs are two large bedrooms and a good-size shower room.

All has been decorated and furnished to form a light and airy feel, the bright white decor offset by splashes of vibrant colour in the furnishings, a most happy marriage of  taste and comfort.

The harbour cannot fail to be a constant source of interest to visitors, but the town does have other charms - plentiful shops and eating places, many fine old houses and a museum donated by Andrew Carnegie.  Duff House was designed by William Adam in 1730, and one of the finest classical houses in Scotland.  It serves a cultural purpose too as an outpost of the National Gallery of Scotland.

Banff stands at the mouth of the River Deveron, a famous fishing river, and also has a Championship.  Golf course, so sporting pursuits are well catered for.  The Bridge of Alvah over the river is a famous beauty spot.

Inland, you have vast tracts of heather moorland to explore on foot , or head for the Whisky Trail (perhaps best to take a abstinent driver along with all that sampling you'll be doing!)  The coastline hereabouts is also famous not just for the disproportionate amount of sunshine it enjoys but also for the charming little fishing villages strung out along it, and its numerous magnificent beaches.

A further advantage of the cottage is that it is accessible by public transport.

Bed linen, towels, gas-CH and electricity are all INCLUDED in the rental.  So sorry, pets are not accepted and smoking is not permitted in the cottage.

A lovely cottage, perfectly named. We have really enjoyed our stay here. The furnishings and decor perfectly complement the cottages's coastal location. We have explored the Moray coastline almost every day, broken only by a couple of trips to the Cairngorms. Highlight of the week, spotting a pod of bottlenose dolphins playing in the bay at Cullen. Hope to return soon. Many thanks.

Duff House is worth a visit, Fyvie castle is excellent. We've had a wonderful holiday here and hope to return. Thanks very much for all the goodies, much appreciated.

We have had a lovely stay in this beautiful cottage with wonderful views. The holiday was "topped off" by seeing dolphins on our last morning from the kitchen window. A real Wow moment! The coastline is beautiful and we particularly enjoyed walks from Portsoy to Findlater Castle, from Cullen to Bow Fiddle Rock and, further afield from Stonehaven to Dunnottar Castle. Thank you for such a lovely, well equipped cottage which was always a pleasure to come back to.
