Victoria Cottage stands in an enclosed garden on the edge of the village of Braemar (shops, pubs, restaurants, hotels) within a few minutes' walk of the centre. In other directions, it is close to the starting points of a number of superb forest walks through the stunning scenery for which Royal Deeside is famous. In fact, the back garden (enclosed) leads directly onto the hills where deer are often to be spied among the heather.
The detached cottage is comfortably furnished, warm and cosy, with pine cladding to all the interior walls and a multi-fuel stove in the living room. There is a steepish staircase leading to the coombed attic rooms which are ideal for children. The cottage is ideal for two adults or a small family.
Serious walkers will find Victoria Cottage an excellent base from which to strike out for the Grampians to the north or the famous Lochnagar to the south-east. For skiers, Glenshee is only 14 miles away and the Lecht, where there is also a dry ski slope, is 23 miles distant. Pony trekking, golf, tennis and fishing are all available in the area and visitors have a host of choices for excursions: Braemar castle itself, the Queen's summer residence at Balmoral (9m) and many other castles and country houses in the area. Further afield, Aberdeen is only 60 miles away and there are fine beaches both there and on the Moray Coast to the north. First, however, you have to get past the temptations of the Whisky Trail - your route will cross it near the Glenlivet Distillery, which is just 38 miles away! To the South, Perth (48m, all facilities, leisure centre, swimming pools, ice-rink) is also accessible for a 'good day out'.
Heating is by multi-fuel stove (starter pack INCLUDED) and electricity. Bed-linen and towels are INCLUDED. Pets are welcome. Smoking is not allowed within the cottage.
