The name places it perfectly.  Bridge of Oich Cottage is just about as close as you can get to Bridge of Oich, a picturesque lock across the Caledonian Canal to the south of Loch Ness and some 37 miles south of Inverness itself.

Semi-detached from the owner's home, but quite private, the cottage itself is scarcely less picturesque.  Approached via a private track, it stands in a peaceful location by the river. There is a pretty porch/conservatory to the front, ideal for sitting and relaxing in less clement weather, a comfortable living room, galley kitchen and spacious twin/double bedroom with en suite shower.

This is an excellent base for touring or enjoying the lovely scenery round about.  Loch Ness will need little introduction as the home of the famous Loch Ness Monster.  From Drumnadrochit, 23 miles to the north, you can take boat trips on the loch and do some Monster-watching,  or you can head for the surrounding hills and enjoy a wide range of walks, both easy and more challenging.  The Great Glen Cycle Way  passes close by, or, straight from the cottage, you can cycle along the towpath of the Caledonian Canal to Fort Augustus (5m, all facilities) where some spectacular locks make this sleepy village something of a honeypot for tourists.  There is also a golf course at Fort Augustus.

27 miles to the south west is Fort William (all facilities), where you can climb Ben Nevis, take the gondola up Aonach Mor, the West Highland Line (steam train) to Mallaig or follow its route by car on the romantic Road to the Isles.

The nearest shop and hotel are 3 miles away at Invergarry and from there you can strike north west towards the west coast and Skye.  Little over an hour's drive will bring you to the Skye bridge (now free of charge), so that a day trip to that famous island is perfectly feasible.

Bed linen and towels are available for hire and heating is by electric heaters.  Sorry, no pets.  No smoking within the cottage.
