It is hard to find sufficient superlatives to describe Sherramore Lodge! It is the principal mansion house in the Glenshero estate in Speyside, one of Scotland's most popular holiday destinations since Queen Victoria fell in love with it over 100 years ago. In fact, Sherramore is exactly the sort of place where, if she had not built her own Balmoral, she might have stayed!
15 miles from Kingussie (shops, restaurants, pubs) and 25 miles from Aviemore (all facilities and overnight sleeper connections to London), Sherramore Lodge stands at the foot of the mountains and beside the River Spey (fishing, boating), in the shelter of a small woodland plantation. Around you, the Estate comprises some 35,000 acres of the most glorious Scottish scenery imaginable, with trout fishing in the Spey, grouse shooting and stalking in season, and walking for ever, both on the surrounding hills, and on the level along its lochs and rivers.
The house itself is no less breathtaking than its setting. It is everything a Victorian shooting lodge should be - spacious, elegant, and luxurious. There is even a table tennis table. The services of a housekeeper can be available by arrangement for six of the seven days of your stay. This is INCLUDED in the rent, which is all inclusive with the exception of the cost of food, drink and telephones. You can also arrange to hire a cook.
In the unlikely event that you can tear yourself away from the Estate itself, the surrounding area offers much in the way of interest and activities. There is pony trekking at Newtonmore (10m. hotel, shops), where you can visit the Highland Folk Museum. There is another part of this Museum at Kingussie, which is also home to the Ruthven Barracks, last occupied by Jacobite troops awaiting the return of Bonnie Prince Charlie from Culloden. Hearing of his defeat, they destroyed the barracks before fleeing to the glens. The ruins are now floodlit at night.
There are also several excellent golf courses within 25 miles, with quiet fairways where visitors are most welcome. A little way beyond Newtonmore, there is the Highland Wildlife Park, while to the south, you can visit the Dalwhinnie Distillery (10m).
To live literally like a king in one of the loveliest places in the land, Sherramore is the place for you.
Heating is INCLUDED. Bedlinen and towels are INCLUDED. Well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement.
