Knockanbuie  Cottage is a Highland gem! It is a picture-book, traditional, stone cottage, standing alone in its own acre of garden, amid trees, above a quiet country road, yet within a couple of minutes drive of the A95 Grantown on Spey (10m) - Elgin road.  It  looks out across the valley of the legendary whisky and salmon river, the Spey, well placed therefore for outdoor pursuits and for exploring this wonderful Highland area.

Within its thick stone walls, Knockanbuie is not only extremely snug, comfortable and well-appointed, but will surely be one of the most characterful holiday homes you could wish for.  There is a spacious farmhouse style breakfast-kitchen, an elegant beamed dining room with open fire which would not disgrace many a Highland shooting lodge, the cosiest of sitting rooms, also with open fire, and, still downstairs, a bathroom, and a shower/utility room.

The upstairs layout is great fun.  One very steep companion way/staircase leads from the sitting room up to an open twin bedded room, which older children in particular will love.  A further conventional stairway lead up from the kitchen to a double bedroom with king size bed, a further double bedroom , and a WC.  So the accommodation is most versatile as well as comfortable.

The Speyside Way runs close by the cottage, so walkers are well catered for.  Whisky enthusiasts will scarcely know where to turn, with so many top-class distilleries on the doorstep, offering tours and tastings.  There are golf courses aplenty.  You can be on the sandy beaches of the sunny Moray coast in under an hour, where you can also visit the many quaint fishing villages, the site of the Battle of Culloden, or Inverness itself (47m).  Take a cruise on Loch Ness while you are there.

To the south, Aviemore (25m, quad bikes, ice rink, lots of fun things for all the family), Rothiemurchus (pony trekking, mountain biking etc) and Loch Morlich (excellent sailing) should not be missed.  Take the mountain railway up the Cairngorm; steam enthusiasts will enjoy the Strathspey Steam Railway which runs between Grantown and Aviemore.  (Broomhill Station, on that line, was used in the filming of Monarch of the Glen).  And then of course, global warming permitting, there is ski-ing both on the Cairngorm and at the Lecht (28m).

There are hotels, a filling station and PO at Ballindalloch (5m), while the nearest centre for main shopping is Grantown on Spey.

An additional pull-out bed may be available for a child.

Heating is by electricity (INCLUDED) and open fires.  Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED.  Well-behaved pets are welcome by arrangement.
