Kiltearn Cottage near Evanton, just 16 miles north of Inverness, has a truly breathtaking location with amazing views over the Cromarty Firth and the Black Isle.   It stands high above the water, detached and quite alone in its own neat garden (furniture).   The car can be brought right to the door and the house is all on one level, with no external steps, making it an ideal choice for visitors of limited mobility.  Inside, Kiltearn is comfortably and attractively furnished with a cosy sitting room and an additional sun room, a well-fitted kitchen and two spacious bed rooms.  Oil fired central heating and an open fire keep the cottage snug all year round.

Its situation is also perfect for exploring many parts of the north of Scotland.  South of Inverness, you have Loch Ness itself with monster-watching possibilities, Urquhart Castle etc.  West from there, you can drive through Glen Urquhart into lovely Glen Affric.  To the north, less than a two hour drive will bring you to John O'Groats, from where you can catch a foot ferry to Orkney.  If you do go north, be sure to visit Dornoch (28m), with its wonderful beach, cathedral and famous golf course.  Alternatively, if the west  coast beckons, Ullapool and the Coigach, or Torridon itself, so beloved of walkers and climbers, are just over 50 miles away.

The Black Isle itself (not an island at all but a peninsula between the Cromarty and Moray Firths) amply rewards exploration, with pretty villages, beaches, golf courses and some of the best places in Europe for spotting dolphins as they swim through the narrows to  the inner Sound.

There are shops and pubs at Evanton (1m), Alness (6m) has more, and of course Inverness has all facilities.

Bed linen and towels and central heating are INCLUDED in the rental.  Sorry, no pets and smoking is not permitted in the house.  A refundable householder's deposit will be required.

What a fabulous cottage! Couldn't believe the views across the water. So much to see and do - dolphins, red kites, riding, golf. A week so not long enough. Must come back.

A long drive, but well worth it for Kiltearn. So warm and cosy we didn't mind the weather. A great base for touring. Liked Dornoch - amazing beach, and Inverness just 20 minutes away. This place is a real discovery. Shall recommend it to our friends.
