At the western end  of the Black Isle (not an island at all but an attractive peninsula between the Moray and Cromarty Firths just north of Inverness), is 16th century Kinkell Castle, a turreted, tower house which could have come right out of a fairytale.  The Castle and the grounds, which include an extensive water garden, have been featured in many books and articles and continue the romantic theme.  Behind the castle (which is privately owned and NOT open to the public) you will find Kinkell Cottage, a delightful stone building which began life as an artist's studio.  It is now a picturesque little dwelling, beautifully and comfortably appointed, making this a perfect romantic hideaway for two people.  Outside, it has its own secluded garden, with patio area and from there, and every room, there are fabulous views away to Ben Wyvis and the west.  Kinkell Cottage is quite unique, and tenants will find a visit here a truly unforgettable experience.

If you do choose to leave this enchanted kingdom and sally forth into the surrounding area during your stay, here too you will find much to delight.  Drive through the Isle to Fortrose, Rosemarkie (where there is a fiendish links golf course) to Chanonry Point, and watch the pods of dolphins making their way into the inner Sound.  Or turn south, through Inverness (all facilities) to Loch Ness and lovely Glen Affric.  The north east coast, with its excellent beaches, distilleries and the pretty cathedral town of Dornoch (35m, with another excellent golf course) repays exploration, or in just over an hour by fast road you can be on the Isle of Skye (67m) or enjoying the scenic splendour of the west coast as well.

Walkers will find plenty to tempt them in the glens to the west of the cottage.  The nearest peak is Ben Wyvis, of which there are excellent views from the grounds.  The relatively flat nature of the Black Isle makes it ideal for cycling, while historical buffs will want to visit the battlefield at Culloden, just beyond Inverness, and the numerous castles and stately homes in the area.

Heating is by electric underfloor heating (INCLUDED).  A starter pack of fuel for the wood burning stove is INCLUDED.  Bed linen and towels are INCLUDED.  Sorry, no pets and smoking is not permitted in the cottage.  Laundry facilities (w/m and t/d) are available in the studio just across the lawn.
