The Giffen Castle Apartment is superbly situated on the top floor of a small baronial castle tucked away at the end of half a mile of private drive and amongst mature woodland. Set in the rolling hills of North Ayrshire in the South West of Scotland, its delightful grounds feature rhododendrons, monkey puzzle trees and Scots pine. Only 30 minutes from Prestwick and Glasgow International Airports, the Giffen Castle Apartment is an ideal base for keen golfers (the championship courses of Troon and Turnberry can be reached within the hour). For those interested in Scottish heritage and literature, it stands right on the edge of Burns country. It also affords a tranquil haven from which to explore the cultural and shopping attractions of Glasgow (40 minutes), Edinburgh (90 minutes) and central and south west Scotland in general. There is also the option of leaving the car at Dalry (4m), from where there is a regular train service to Glasgow (journey time only 20 minutes).
The Apartment is extremely well-appointed, and has all the style and atmosphere one would associate with baronial accommodation - spacious rooms of interesting shape, high ceilings, a big bay window with working shutters; one of the turrets even serves as a walk-in wardrobe! Bright and sunny in its elevated position, it overlooks the gardens and has an entrance from the courtyard (stairs!).
The nearest towns of Beith (4m) and Dalry (4m) both offer shops, pub, restaurant etc. while the pretty Clyde resort of Largs (famous Italian ice cream in an Art Deco setting at Nardini's) is only 18 miles distant. From Ardrossan (16m) it is possible to take the car ferry to the lovely island of Arran and near Troon (20m) there are sandy beaches to enjoy. Just to the south towards Turnberry, Culzean Castle (40m), in its dramatic cliff-top setting, is well worth a visit.
Heating by oil-CH and electricity, bed-linen and towels are all INCLUDED. One small well behaved pet by arrangement. There is an additional charge of £25 for use of each of the chairbeds. Wi-Fi internet access is available, subject to provider.
