Longformacus is a picturesque rural borders village that lies in the beautiful valley of the Dye Water at the foot of the Lammermuir Hills, just 7 miles from the market town of Duns and within an hour's drive of Edinburgh.
Dye Water Cottage is a real 'roses-round-the-door' 18th Century traditional stone cottage set within a unique terrace in a quiet country lane overlooking a meandering river. It is a beautifully peaceful spot, and you will be lulled to sleep each night by the song of the river.
Downstairs there is a cosy sitting / dining room with wood burning stove, a fully equipped kitchen, and a stunning bathroom that provides a luxurious alternative to usual cottage facilities! Through the hallway, stairs lead you up to the double and twin bedrooms overlooking Dye Water to the front while a comfortable lounge area has a door leading to a spacious enclosed, sloping cottage garden to the rear of the property (5 steps up from the house to the garden).
The Southern Upland Way passes through the village and there are numerous other walking, hiking and cycling opportunities for all levels that can be accessed locally. Fishing can be arranged on the local Watch Water reservoir, for which permits are available in the village. Duns golf course welcomes visitors and there are many other golf courses within a short distance of the cottage.
The cottage lies within half an hour's drive of the coastal village of St. Abbs, one of the best scuba diving sites in Europe and home to an RSPB reserve with great cliff-top walking. Surfboard hire and lessons can be arranged at the nearby sandy Coldingham beach which is also perfect for swimming. The historic town of Berwick-upon-Tweed is rich in history and well worth a visit as are Manderston and Paxton historic stately homes.
Edinburgh and the attractions of the Northumberland coast including Lindesfarne (Holy Island), Bamburgh, Alnwick Castle and Gardens lie within an hour's drive of the cottage.
Bed linen and towels, central heating and electricity are all INCLUDED in the price of your stay. One well behaved dog is welcome by arrangement. Sorry, no smoking in the cottage.
