The Designer's HouseGuest Rating
On the outskirts of the picturesque little town of Melrose south of Edinburgh (30 miles) in the midst of the beautiful Scottish Borders, is the Designer’s House. It forms the upper two floors of a traditional, end-terrace cottage.

With the legendary Eildon Hills rising up right behind it, the golf course just a few hundred yards up the road and the town centre with its little shops, excellent eating places, historic Abbey, the Greenyards rugby football ground and the River Tweed all within strolling distance, it truly is perfectly situated.
The owner is a talented professional textile designer and she has used all her considerable flair and good taste to create the most comfortable, elegant and appealing holiday home imaginable.
The open plan living area has a beautifully fitted kitchen at one end and a bistro style dining area in the middle. At the other end is a most comfortable sitting area, with a living flame gas fire as a focal point. The light-coloured furnishings and windows to front, back and side enhance the feeling of light and brightness.
Also on this floor are two bright and charming double bedrooms, with elegant beds, stripped wood flooring and stylish wall hangings. As you would expect, everything has been carefully chosen and coordinated to create a most welcoming and luxurious atmosphere. There is also a handy WC.
On the second floor is a further double bedroom, once again most attractively furnished, this time with a carpeted floor and a window seat from which to enjoy the breathtaking view of the hill behind. A modern and spacious bathroom completes the accommodation. At the Designer’s House, the maximum number of guests is limited to four, so with three bedrooms, there will be plenty of room for everyone to spread out.
Outside, there is plenty of parking in the quiet cul de sac in which the cottage stands. A gate in the wall leads you into the sheltered and sunny garden, from which external steps lead right up to the door.
Melrose has rightly become something of a honeypot for visitors, with its scenic position on the River Tweed and its ruined abbey.
It also has a host of excellent little independent shops and a number of equally excellent eating places, all of which are within easy walking distance of the Designer's House.
Having limbered up with an early morning ascent of the Eildons or a quick round of golf, energetic types can continue to indulge their passion throughout the day. Melrose stands at the beginning of St Cuthbert's Way which runs over the Border to Lindisfarne and the Southern Upland Way may also be joined just across the river.
For those seeking more tranquil relaxation there are many riverside and woodland strolls to be enjoyed. Melrose is also the home of the Rugby Sevens game. The 'Melrose Sevens' takes place in April, attracting both teams and spectators from all over the world.
The Borders is traditional riding country and you can hire horses at local stables, the nearest being near Earlston (4 miles). Fishermen can try their luck in the Tweed, though there are also plenty of other rivers and lochans round about. World class mountain biking is available at Glentress (20 miles).
Edinburgh is only an hour's drive away or 55 minutes by train from Tweedbank (2.5 miles). There is also a regular bus service from Melrose if you fancy leaving the car behind. The sandy and craggy Berwickshire coast is also about an hour away, while nearer to home there are many stately homes, castles, keeps and the Border Abbeys to visit.
Plenty of reason, then, to get out and about and in the evening the sublime comfort of the Designer's House will welcome you home once more.
