Could anything be more perfectly situated?  At the front door, the beach, at the back, the golf-course!  The Beach House at Belhaven, on the outskirts of Dunbar in south-east Scotland  is just 50 metres from the shore, and backs on to the Winterfield Golf Course.   It stands in a small enclosed garden, with a patio area to the rear and a verandah to the front.   There are superb views out over the sea to the Bass Rock, while in the foreground there is the 'bridge in the sea', which at high tide just sits there in the middle of the water!

The double-glazed, electrically-heated chalet is simply but comfortably furnished, with open plan living area, shower room and double/twin bedroom.  There is also a bed-settee in the living room and a cot may be hired.

Belhaven Bay is part of the John Muir Country Park and there is a coastal walk which takes the visitor into Dunbar (all facilities, leisure pool, castle, harbours).  Across the 'bridge in the sea', the surfing can be good  at mid to high tide.

With Edinburgh only 30 miles away and readily accessible by train from Dunbar, The Beach House is an excellent centre from which to explore the area.  On the coast there is Dirleton Castle, with its lovely gardens, and spectacular Tantallon, clinging to its clifftop perch.  Also near Dirleton (15m) there are, of course the prestigious championship golf courses at Muirfield and Luffness, not to mention a number of gourmet restaurants, where you can replace the pounds lost earlier in the day.   North Berwick  (14m) is well worth a visit, (and perhaps a walk up Berwick Law, the conical hill which dominates the town.)  From North Berwick too it is possible to take a boat trip to see the nesting seabirds on the Bass Rock  - where you can spend some time ashore -and Fidra Island.  For keen walkers,  Cockburnspath at the beginning of the Southern Upland Way is only 8 miles distant.

Heating is by electricity (£10 INCLUDED).  Bed-linen and towels are INCLUDED.  Pets welcome by arrangement.  Visitors are requested not to smoke within the Beach House.

The Beach House is shown in the bottom left-hand corner.

The cottage provided every comfort we could have wanted. Quiet and relaxing and a wonderful view. The weather could have been kinder but the view out of the window across the bay, sat in the comfort of the cottage, certainly made up for it.

Another wonderful week spent at The Beach House, our perfect place to relax and unwind. Haddington is a picturesque village, with a lovely walk along the riverbank. The Glen is a must for all golfers.

Campbell party, West Midlands 12/09/2009

Well worth the long journey - The Beach House is just the right size for us to treat like home. Weather was very kind to us and we visited places both in Scotland & Northumberland which was our plan. From Alnwick to the Forth Bridge, plenty of sunshine for pictures. The ride around Bass Rock and sun setting on Lindisfarne - memories for the next time. We love castles and beaches and there's plenty to go round. Well enjoyed.

Davison party, West Lothian 03/10/2009

Thank you for letting us stay at The Beach House. It was fantastic - very clean and comfy and cosy. It was like home from home. The dogs loved the many walks and the icing on the cake, the weather was beautiful. Cannot wait to come back. Many thanks.

Schuitt party, Netherlands 26/04/2009

We have been to several parts of Scotland, but this year we were very pleased to stay for the first time in "The Beach House". We certainly will be back to this lovely place and play some more golf in the back garden and some other courses. We had our afternoon drink at the verandah in the sun. We had a fantastic week. It's a pity we have to go home.

Wake party, Tyne & Wear 15/05/2010

Had a fantastic week. The Beach House was very clean and comfortable with everything you could have wanted. The weather was great, a dog's paradise! The views from the cliff tops were spectacular. The people were friendly which made our stay even more enjoyable. Thank you for a great week.

Lawton party, Shropshire 05/06/2010

Enjoyed our first stay in this cosy Beach House with fantastic views. North Berwick very pretty. Edinburgh very busy. Golf plenty. What can anyone have to say that's not good about it here! Weather been mixed - rain, sun, very windy, but not put us off. Will come again. Thank you.

Ward party, South Yorkshire 26/06/2010

Good weather 6 out of the 7 days spent at your wonderful Beach House. Excellent base to explore this beautiful part of Scotland. A great time was had by all on the beach and sea - especially by Tess our dog. Many thanks.

Davies party, Cambridgeshire 25/09/2010

Very well-equipped and comfortable. Particularly liked the dark skies. Saw the 4 Galileon moons of Jupiter with the binoculars (as they orbit Jupiter they may not all be visible. They change position from one night to the next). Coffee and cake at Saddlers Cafe in Dunbar and pizza from Pizzeria were good.

Allan party, Lanarkshire 27/02/2010

Before leaving home we began to doubt the wisdom of booking so early, as it was snowing. But we needed a break from the stress of everyday life. When we arrived the house was so cosy and well-equipped and we could not have asked for any more. On our first day there was an incredible storm when the sea was very wild but was fascinating to watch. After that it was as if spring had arrived. We had lots of lovely walks with our dog and were even able to sit out on the porch one afternoon. So we are off home fitter, thinner and certainly more relaxed.

Collins party, Oxfordshire 17/04/2010

We have spent 3 lovely weeks using the Beach House as a base whilst visiting our daughter in Dunbar. The beach views were brilliant entertainment and our family were able to visit with their children. It has been very safe for the young ones to play. The Beach House proved to be exceptionally comfortable and warm - though the weather has been outstanding. The walks and cycle rides in the area, particularly the Lammermuir Hills, were outstanding. We'll definitely be back!

Johnson party, Shetland 13/03/2010

We know of "Sunny Dunny" and The Beach House lives up to its reputation. Even in mid-March we felt at home right away. It was nice to see the horses being exercised on the beach in the mornings. Well worth a return visit.
