5 miles north of St John's town of Dalry (pub) and about 25 miles from Castle Douglas in south-west Scotland, the cottage has enormous charm. This is not only because of its superb location amongst the hills and lochs of Galloway, but also, equally, because it has been most pleasingly decorated and furnished by the owners for their own use rather than as a 'rental' cottage.

Situated above Loch Carsfad at the side of a very quiet back road that snakes up from St John's town of Dalry and New Galloway (great golf-course said to have the best views in Scotland - day ticket £10) to Carsphairn (9 miles) and the coast at Ayr ( 45 mins. drive), it is surrounded by stunning hill and forest countryside - marvellous for walking, picnics, etc - with the waterfalls of the shallow River Blackwater tumbling down at its rear through rocky pools into the loch.

The only neighbour is a small Youth Hostel which walkers can stagger down to from the strenuous Southern Upland Way which follows the line of the hills well to the east of the cottage, but otherwise this detached south-facing cosy 200-year-old stone cottage, with lovely views from every window, stands on its own in a pretty garden (furniture and barbecue) which will keep your children safe. South of St John in Dalry there is Loch Ken and The Galloway Forest Park with watersports, fishing, birdwatching, mountain-biking, etc., and there is a host of interesting places to visit as well as a fascinating coastline to explore.

Heating is by wood-burning stove and electricity (INCLUDED). Bed-linen is INCLUDED and towels are available for hire.  There is a telephone for incoming calls. We regret no smoking or pets are allowed in this cottage.
