Windgill Cottage is located on Birthwood Farm in the high hills bordering Lanarkshire and Peeblesshire just 3 miles from the village of Coulter (good restaurant) and 7 miles from Biggar (restaurants, shops, interesting museums). It is one of the most sought-after cottages in the south of Scotland, tucked away all on its own in glorious hill country at the side of a very quiet farm (tarmac) road that leads only to a reservoir.
It is a traditional stone-built, comfortably but simply furnished, former shepherd's cottage, approached via a small bridge over a stream at its front, and with high rounded green hills rising in tiers at its rear. From the sitting-room window you can enjoy an uninterrupted view of unspoilt hill country without a house in sight and many visitors choose to stay-put, 'unwinding', with their feet up by the open-fire, even although the many local excursions are tempting. Easily accessible from the fast M74, it is convenient for excursions to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Moffat and Peebles - all about 45 minutes by car (and thence quickly to points further north and west) and there is excellent walking from the cottage, fishing on the River Clyde (permits available), four good golf-courses within easy radius and fine bird-watching.
Heating is by open fire and electricity. Bed-linen is INCLUDED and towels can be hired. Most pets are welcome but we regret NO CATS. All the beds have electric blankets
