Windgill Cottage is located on Birthwood Farm in the high hills bordering Lanarkshire and Peeblesshire just 3 miles from the village of Coulter (good restaurant) and 7 miles from Biggar (restaurants, shops, interesting museums). It is one of the most sought-after cottages in the south of Scotland, tucked away all on its own in glorious hill country at the side of a very quiet farm (tarmac) road that leads only to a reservoir.

It is a traditional stone-built, comfortably but simply furnished, former shepherd's cottage, approached via a small bridge over a stream at its front, and with high rounded green hills rising in tiers at its rear. From the sitting-room window you can enjoy an uninterrupted view of unspoilt hill country without a house in sight and many visitors choose to stay-put, 'unwinding', with their feet up by the open-fire, even although the many local excursions are tempting. Easily accessible from the fast M74, it is convenient for excursions to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Moffat and Peebles - all about 45 minutes by car (and thence quickly to points further north and west) and there is excellent walking from the cottage, fishing on the River Clyde (permits available), four good golf-courses within easy radius and fine bird-watching.

Heating is by multi fuel stove and electricity. Bed-linen is INCLUDED and towels can be hired (they will be included for overseas guests.) Most pets are welcome but we regret NO CATS and smoking is not permitted in the property. All the beds have electric blankets.

Fabulous!! We have stayed in cottages in Scotland for the past 8 years. This was superb. Very relaxing, well-equipped, very private. We all hope to return.

A pleasant stay in a characterful cottage. Lots of varied walks from the cottage out in to the hills.....quiet and peaceful except for the birdsong, bleating of sheep and the wind through the trees....just the way it should be.

Had many cottage holidays, but Windgill is by far the best. Could stay here on a permanent basis. Wonderful warm welcome on arrival. Wonderful cottage. The most peaceful, beautiful and private place I have visited. Will be returning many times to come and for longer periods. Many thanks.

Lovely welcome and a great cottage which was well equipped. Walks from cottage with sightings of buzzards, kestrels, and heron. A peaceful stay much enjoyed.
