Nestling in the quiet Ale Valley among the green hills of the Scottish Borders, and right alongside the Alewater, is Burnfoot Cottage, a charming, semi-detached holiday home which has been converted from a former farm-worker's cottage.

It stands in its own secluded, fenced garden, and perhaps its most delightful feature is its conservatory dining room which overlooks the river behind, and from where you can enjoy the delightful surroundings whatever the weather.

Snug and cosy, with oil-fired central heating, Burnfoot Cottage is full of character.  There is a multi-fuel stove in the sitting room, one double bedroom downstairs and a second double upstairs with coombed ceilings which is accessed by steepish stairs.  The upstairs bathroom also has a separate shower cubicle.

Despite being in such a peaceful and secluded situation, Burnfoot Cottage is remarkably well-placed to take advantage of all the surrounding area has to offer.  The nearest pub is just half a mile away at the Woll golf course with another 2 miles away miles away at Ashkirk, where there are also riding stables.

Shops, hotels, swimming pool etc. will be found at Selkirk (6m).  Fishing is available by arrangement in the Ale water itself, or in the many stocked lochs or other rivers round about.  If you have a boat or wind surfer, you can take it up to St Mary's Loch, lonely and serene among the hills.  There is wonderful walking country in all directions.  Many stretches of the Tweed are ideal for canoeing.  In addition, there are lots of castles, stately homes and ruined abbeys to visit.  And if you're still looking for more, Edinburgh is just over an hour's drive away.

Bed linen, towels, electricity and oil-CH are all INCLUDED.  Well behaved pets are welcome by arrangement.  Smoking is not permitted within the property

Our first visit to the Borders - loved it. Delightful cottage - comfy, clean and well-equipped. Loved the conservatory - every Scottish holiday home should have one! We were very lucky with the weather and enjoyed various walks in the surrounding area. particularly enjoyed the Lady walk and Loch walks at Bowhill. Wish we could have stayed longer and look forward to returning in the future.

We have had a lovely week in this comfortable and cosy cottage. Weather has been mixed but hasn't stopped us in any way. Favourite places were Melrose, Kelso and the river walk at Hawick. Our grandson liked the swings and walk at Harestanes and the animals at 100 Aker Wood Garden Centre.

Little party, Ayrshire 15/05/2010

We have enjoyed our stay at the cottage and the good weather was a bonus. Found the cottage very comfortable and relaxing and it had everything we needed. Also we enjoyed seeing so many different birds - 21 in total. The welcome tea tray on arrival was much appreciated. We will certainly be back for a return visit.

Enjoyed our week at Burnfoot Cottage so very much. Weather wonderful. Had long walks every day. Loved the accommodation, especially watching the heron catching fish from the Ale Water.

Loved the location of the cottage. The conservatory is a real bonus as you can sit in it and enjoy watching the birds, listening to the burn, etc even on the worst weather days. Cottage comfy and well equipped and the stove in the lounge cosy on cold days. I had added bonus of watching a car treasure hunt go past one day with loads of lovely vintage cars and motor bikes.
