If you are looking for a large property with plenty of character, class and style but also one which is functional and guest friendly, enabling you to relax and enjoy your time away, then you need look no further than Knowpark House. Just over 3 miles from Selkirk (all facilities), right in the middle of the beautiful Scottish Borders, this house is perfectly positioned to explore a region rich in history and with an exceptionally varied landscape, from the gently rolling hills and moorland in the west to the high cliffs and rocky coves of the Berwickshire coastline in the east.
Despite its elegance and grandeur this house is exceedingly welcoming. On entering you can immediately tell that this property was designed not only to impress but also with practicality in mind. A large cloakroom greets you, with plenty of space for muddy boots and coats to be discarded before entering its large dining kitchen, kept warm and cosy by the 4 oven Aga, over which is an attractive bespoke tiled homage to this exceptional house and its fine garden.
Originally built as a hunting lodge, Knowpark House is perfect for entertaining. The striking dining room and rather splendid sitting room, complete with a large open fire and distinctive fender seats, will be a joy to share with company. There has also been the addition of a few modern touches to make life easier for the host; two dishwashers and a large butler's pantry will make certain that you too have time to enjoy yourself! The games room with full size snooker table is bound to please and the awe inspiring views across the parklands in front of the property over to the Minto hills, and beyond, are sure to be an agreeable talking point.
For those residing at the property the sleeping arrangements are no less outstanding. Up the unusual spiral staircase there are two double bedrooms (one with dressing room, en-suite and decorative fire place), two twins, one single, a sizeable walk through sitting area with settee and TV, two good size bathrooms and a handy additional lavatory.
When you step out of Whitmuir House you are surrounded by a large, wooded, mature, private garden complete with croquet lawn and pavilion and beyond that you have mile upon mile of fantastic Borders countryside waiting to be discovered. Within walking distance are the Whitlaw Mosses, a National Nature Reserve. These wetlands include willow scrub rich with lichen, areas of open moss carpet, feathery sedge swamps as well as sweet smelling herb and grassy meadows, all in all a butterfly paradise! On the road heading into Selkirk from the property you pass the well kept greens of Selkirk Golf Course. Its 9 hole course, set amongst the heather and gorse, offers spectacular views over the Linglie Hills and then to the distant hills of Ettrick & Yarrow (as well as a challenging round of golf, of course!) Six miles south of Whitmuir is a well established riding school and this being horse country you could take the opportunity to try out a favourite local pastime.
Heating is by oil central heating (INCLUDED) and open fire (starter pack INCLUDED). Electricity, bed linen and towels are also INCLUDED in the rental. Sorry, no pets and smoking is not permitted in the property. A refundable house holders deposit is required.
