Old Hyndhope Cottage has one of the very loveliest situations in the Scottish Border country with wonderful sweeping views all around of the Ettrick Valley. It stands fairly high itself (car access to door) with walks radiating in all directions and no disturbance except from visiting sheep, birds and occasional deer - Hyndhope Estate is just 2 miles south of the village of Ettrickbridge (pub/bar meals) bordering the B7009 which runs from Selkirk (9 miles) in the central Borders down to Langholm (38 miles) in Dumfriesshire.
Old Hyndhope has long had a band of devoted admirers who return here year after year. They (and others coming for the first time) will find the house has become even more attractive with landscaped outside areas and the addition of a stunning conservatory dining room, affording glorious views on three sides. The sitting room with its open fire remains as cosy as ever and the bedrooms are all most attractively furnished, though taller guests are advised that the ceiling in the upstairs double bedroom is very low. (There's another double bedroom of conventional size downstairs, however.) With two doubles, a twin and a single bedroom, the accommodation is versatile as well as comfortable, enhanced by new double glazing and oil-CH.
The quiet Border roads offer easy access to many places of interest, stately homes, castles, ruined or otherwise, the pretty Borders towns, even a day in Edinburgh, if you can bear to tear yourself away from this heavenly spot. It's small wonder that Old Hyndhope has such a following!
Salmon fishing on the River Ettrick can usually be arranged with The Owner or The Buccleuch Estates and trout fishing (fly only) in stocked Lochs with the Owner.
Heating is by open-fire and oil-CH (INCLUDED.) Electricity, bed-linen and towels are INCLUDED. Dogs are welcome if kept under strict control. No smoking is allowed in the house.
