Barabhaig Cottage

Camus Croise Bay, Isle of Skye

AP9

Barabhaig is a very well appointed detached stone cottage which has a wonderful position on the shore of Camas Croise Bay on the Sleat peninsula in the south-eastern corner of Skye.

Just a 20 minute drive south of the Skye Bridge and 15 minutes drive north of Armadale where the car-ferry arrives from Mallaig and 'The Road to the Isles', this is a wonderfully peaceful spot.

The cottage stands right at the end of the single-track road which leads through the little village of Camuscross and from its garden (with furniture) there are spectacular views across the water to the mountains of mainland Scotland beyond. Look out too for the otters and seals which are frequent visitors to this shore!

The cottage itself is spacious and comfortable. The charming sitting room has an open fire, there is a well-equipped dining kitchen and a downstairs twin bedroom. Upstairs are double and twin bedrooms and a bathroom. The many windows make it a very bright cottage, to which it is a joy to return after a day on the shore, out on the water, or exploring this most romantic and beautiful island.

As the icing on the cake, so to speak, there is an award-winning restaurant and bar at the Hotel Eilean Iarmain at Isle Ornsay, about a mile along the coast, which also hosts regular evenings of traditional music in the bar.

Sleat differs from the rest of Skye, being lush and green and for this reason is known as the garden of the island. From the other side of the peninsula, near Ord, there are arguably the best views on the island of the Black Cuillin (as well as some glorious picnic places).

The Armadale Castle gardens and Clan Donald Centre at Ardvasar should not be missed and Seafari trips can also be taken from Armadale. Still nearer is the Gaelic College, which offers courses and hosts evenings of traditional music, for some real local colour.

To the north, Broadford (with all facilities) is within a 15 minute drive, or you could divert and take the tiny road down to Kylerhea, with stunning views, an otter hide and in summer, a little turntable car ferry across to Glenelg on the mainland.

Beyond Broadford, good roads will take you right up the island to the golf course at Sconser, Portree, the main town, the Cuillins at Sligachan, where you can branch off for the north west to visit the Talisker distillery, historic Dunvegan with its ancient castle and the lovely Coral Beaches.

Please note: while we make every effort to be as accurate as possible, the actual position of the cottage indicated on the map above and the proximity of the amenities in the Local Info section cannot be guaranteed to be precise and should be used as a guide only.
