The most usual reaction on entering Dunfuinary Cottage must surely be 'Wow!' Just Wow! You'd have to be very jaded indeed not to be quite stunned by its amazing outlook across the waters of Loch Etive, 5 miles from Oban and 1 from the pretty village of Connel (restaurants, hotels, shop/PO). There are decking platforms on three sides too, so you can follow the sun round as you quite possibly take root in front of this wonderful panorama and don't want to move for the duration of your holiday.
The cottage stands on its own and is accessed by steps from the road.(While the A85 runs past and above the cottage at the rear, the house is double glazed and in any case a trick of the acoustics seems to take any traffic noise over your head). It is beautifully designed on two levels (3 internal stairs) to take advantage of the rake of the hill, with an open-plan sunken sitting room with wood-burning stove, a spacious and well fitted kitchen/dining area with patio doors to the decking, and a double bedroom and bathroom.
Besides the decking, there is, to the side of the cottage, a charming grotto garden, with furniture on a small terrace, and a path leads down to your own private 'beach'.
Having found such a heavenly spot, it may indeed be hard to tear your self away, but it would be a shame to come to such a beautiful part of Scotland's west coast and not do some exploring. From Oban, you can take day trips to Mull, Iona and several of the smaller islands. There is a lovely safe sandy beach just 3 miles away at Tralee Bay by Benderloch, where there is also karting. Families may also enjoy a visit to The Sea Life Centre at Barcaldine, just another 5 miles or so up the road, or the Rare Breeds Park on the back road between Connel and Oban.
If you'd like to be even more energetic, there is some splendid forest and hill walking to be had. There is riding at Lettershuna at Appin, (where you can ride on the beach at low tide in the shadow of picturesque Castle Stalker.) While there, why not have a gastronomic treat and dine at Aird's Hotel or the Pierhouse Restaurant at Port Appin - two world class eateries in such a tiny village! A week in this enchanting cottage will most certainly not be enough.
Heating by oil CH and electricity, bed linen and towels are INCLUDED. Sorry, no smokers and pets are not accepted.
