Of all the islands off the west coast of Scotland, the Isle of Mull is arguably the most popular as a holiday destination.  It has a wonderful mix of mountain and sea, some quiet and fabulous beaches, teeming wildlife in land, sea and air,  - seals, otters, sea eagles, deer, even the occasional whale, to name but a few.

One of the most spectacular parts of its coastline is at Carsaig, where there is both a beach and dramatic cliffs. (So impressive are the surroundings that a School of Painting flourishes just outside the Estate, where artists come from all over the world to capture the glories of this particular corner.)    Tucked away at the end of a little single track road, 4 miles off the main thoroughfare (also a single track road - don't get excited!) between Craignure and Fionnphort at the southwest corner, it is a place of blissful quiet and tranquillity.

West Carsaig is a semi detached white cottage, simply but comfortably furnished.  With its mirror image, West Carsaig,  it stands quite alone, facing south to the distant isles of Jura, Colonsay and Islay.  A small burn runs down by the side and front of the cottage (care with young children) and across the 250 yards of grass and rocky foreshore which leads to a beautiful long sandy beach Those who appreciate somewhere to relax in most beautiful surroundings, will find this spot truly idyllic, while children will love the freedom to play far from traffic and other constraints.

The nearest shop and restaurant are six miles away.

If you can bear to leave this little slice of heaven for a day, however, you will find another at the end of the road at Fionnphort, for where you can take the little foot ferry across to Iona.  This wondrous island has been a place of pilgrimage for over fourteen centuries, and its amazing aura remains unaffected by the crowds of tourists who descend on it daily.  Definitely not to be missed.  From Fionnphort too, you can take boat trips to view the remarkable rock formations of Staffa, and the puffin colonies on the Treshnish Isles.

Heating is by open fire, night store and fan heaters.  Electricity and bed linen are INCLUDED in the rent and towels may be hired.  We regret that pets are not accepted.  There is not TV in the cottage as reception is very poor.
