Right at the end of the road, just south of the Applecross peninsula on Scotland's lovely west coast, Cuillin View Cottage is situated on the shores of Loch Carron, with breathtaking views across to Skye and the Cuillin Hills in the distance.

A traditional, detached croft house, cosy and double-glazed, it is one of a little group of three in this peaceful spot.  It faces south-west, so is sunny for most of the day and ideally placed to view the spectacular west coast sunsets.  To the front there is a sun-trap terrace garden (furniture), and a nearby path leads down to the shore, where otters and seals can often be seen.  The house is accessed by a 50 metre unmade drive, with a parking space next to the gate and further parking at the end of the drive in a small car park.

Inside, it has been refurbished to a high standard, with a sitting room, separate dining room with gas 'woodburning' stove, a well-fitted and equipped kitchen, and utility room.  There are two staircases, one leading from the hall to a bedroom with king-size bed, a twin bedroom,  and bathroom, and the second leading from the sitting room to a second twin bedroom and another bathroom.  Loads of character then, as well as comfort!

Chilling out and relaxing must be the order of the day at Cuillin View, but there is so much to do and see in this part of the world, that you are bound to be tempted away to explore at least some of the delights of the area.

An hour's drive will have you on Skye  (30m) with its many attractions.  The Applecross Peninsula, which you will access over the spectacular Pass of the Cattle, is a delight, and there is a sandy beach there just beside the village (pub, 10m).  Heading further north, you will reach Shieldaig and Torridon, (26m) so beloved of walkers and climbers, and on to the famous sub-tropical gardens at Inverewe (50m).  If a day in the city appeals, then you could leave the car at Strathcarron Station and take the train up the glen to Inverness (67m).

And don't forget to visit picturesque Plockton (23m), with its palm trees and yachting marina, perhaps stopping for lunch at one of its excellent restaurants.  The Rockvilla Hotel at Lochcarron  and the Strathcarron Hotel  at Strathcarron (9m) both serve good meals, and the Carron restaurant is just a mile further down the Kyle of Lochalsh road.   Lochcarron has two well-stocked general stores, one of which is also a Post Office, an excellent local butcher and some gift shops.  Strathcarron has a PO, while Kyle of Lochalsh is the nearest place for major supermarket shopping.

There is an attractive 9-hole lochside golf course at  Lochcarron which welcomes visitors, with snacks and bar meals available in the clubhouse.  Lochcarron also has a sailing club, and mountain guides for climbing on Skye and the higher peaks round about, and mountaineering courses, are available locally.

Heating is by electric storage  heaters (INCLUDED) and gas stove.  Bed linen is INCLUDED and towels may be hired.  One well behaved pet is welcome by arrangement, but should be kept downstairs. Smoking is not permitted in the cottage

This has to be one of the nicest, if not THE nicest holiday let we have ever stayed in.

Hill party, Staffordshire 03/04/2010

Our last night, just sitting on the patio watching the sunset with a glass of wine - waking to that view every morning has been heaven. Suppose we had better go inside and pack. Sure we will be back soon, just don't want to go home.

Smith party, Cleveland 25/09/2010

What an amazing two weeks we've had! It is going to be so hard going back to "reality" and not to be able to drift off to sleep and wake up to the quietness all round - just the sound of the waves. Because Cuillin View is such a home from home it makes the leaving all the harder.
