Marchbank is a trim, detached modern house in a truly stunning location on the shores of Loch Bracadale, between Dunvegan and Sligachan on the west coast of Skye.  The view over the water and across to the strange, flat-topped hills known as MacLeod's Tables is simply beautiful and the huge windows and patio doors of the cottage's sitting room are designed to make the most of it.

There is parking right at the door and there is free use of the jetty below the house if you wish to bring your own boat.  Essentially, at Marchbank you have your own stretch of seashore, where children can play and adults explore, perhaps catching a glimpse of an elusive otter in the process.  Seals and all manner of seabirds are frequently to be seen.  You may even be lucky enough to spot a sea eagle.  (Do please, however, keep the gate shut or you may have wildlife coming to see you in the form of the nosey local sheep!)

The excellence of the house is on a par with its setting.  In addition to the comfortable sitting room, there is a large, well-appointed dining kitchen with every modern convenience, and an additional utility room with washing machine and tumble drier.  The large master bedroom with king-size bed has an en suite;  there are two further twin bedrooms and a large family bathroom.  And as an additional bonus, there is a second, enormous sitting room/play room with wide screen TV/DVD at the top of the spiral staircase, so there is plenty of room to spread.

Historic Dunvegan with shops, restaurants and of course its famous castle and gardens is just 7 miles away.  From there, too you can take boat trips to the seal islands.  The 'capital' of Skye, Portree, is just a half hour drive from the cottage and the excellent roads in this part of the island mean that much of the island is quite accessible for a day's outing.  You can visit the Talisker Distillery at Carbost on Loch Harport (careful, there are two Carbosts on the island!), head into the Red Cuillin from Sligachan, or for some less strenuous exercise, play golf at Sconser (18m).  So much to do, though you may well be content just to chill out in the lovely surroundings of Marchbank.

Heating is by electric heaters.  Bed linen, towels,  and electricity (first £25) are INCLUDED.  Sorry, pets are not accepted and smoking is not permitted within the cottage.

A beautiful cottage! Thanks for sharing it with us. The views are truly spectacular. We had great food at The Old School House, a must. So many great places to explore. Skye was so much fun. We will return some day.

Fantastic week. Great weather. Highly recommend AquaX-plore and climbing the Cuillins if you're feeling brave. Great house too - very comfortable and well-equipped.

Findley party, Cumbria 27/06/2009

Our second visit and the cottage is even better than the first time. Unbeatable views and the cottage a home from home. Enjoyed the keyboard! Saw a deer and an otter by the side of the road down by the Armadale Centre. Had a great time and the cottage really is the best of all we have ever stayed in.

Bannister party, Leeds 06/06/2009

Thank you for our stay in your lovely house. We were fascinated by the ever changing scenery with the weather. Marvellous views. Marchbank is so comfortable, equipped with everything you need. We were extremely lucky with lovely hot weather. A really enjoyable family holiday for our three generations vacation. Thank you again.

A very well-equipped cottage with games room (videos, DVD's and games). Lovely views across the bay and beautiful sunsets. Good restaurants quite close by.

A lovely homely cottage with fabulous views. We have had a great week (lots of sunshine!) and would especially recommend the Coral Beaches. The games room was brilliant! Thank you.

Woolley party, Lancashire 18/09/2010

Thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage. Was brought back to reality when I read the visitors book. I had become so comfortable here I forgot I was a visitor. Could spend many more days, weeks, months sitting at the window watching the ever changing view and the wildlife, the garden birds are real characters and there is always something happening on the loch. Can't wait to return

Photos of Marchbank don't do it justice. More roomy than we thought. Our elderly parents really enjoyed it here. We would come again.

What a beautiful cottage. Stunning view, warm and cosy, spacious, airy and welcoming. I like to cook, so particularly liked the Sabatier knives in the kitchen. Super comfy sofas were great.

Fantastic accommodation. Weather great. Managed to complete a few low level walks. Hope to come back some time.

Emma and Mark, Midlothian 17/09/2011

What an amazing cottage with an outstanding view and everything inside you could wish for. The pictures on the website really don't do it justice. The cosy room upstairs was a real hidden gem. The Isle of Skye is a great place to visit...lots to see and do on both wet and dry days. Local restaurants aplenty - The Three Chimneys was fab!

Williams party, Wales 03/09/2011

We've a lovely week at Marchbank in your cosy comfortable cottage. Wonderful views - even in the rain! Spotted seals and otters on the loch but very sad not to see an eagle
